The Internet's Importance During Hurricane 'Katrina'
We got a great lesson on how the internet performed during this disaster. For some it was a life saver in that they could still communicate while everything else was destroyed. For us webmasters our services remained unninterrupted and for webmasters at ground zero of the storm how you guys fared will be interesting to see. A real story of engineering and courage.
Today the President spent a good part of his speech telling people what websites to go to! Can you imagine that? It's amazing to see the web do what it was designed to do, survive any disaster and still be up and running. How about those communications technologies like satellite? How did they make out during the disaster? Cell phones sucked ass in some cases and LAN lines were up and sometimes better than the Cells. If you were to prepare for disaster or the effects of a disaster what equipment would you purchase and have on standby? |
