    that favicon.ico thing......?

i got for a site of mine (mysite.com) as a 404 page a redirection page that redirects to my blog (myblog.com).

When i look at the stats in my blog, i see in the referrers mysite.com/favicon.ico always in the top rankings... how come?

by the way i dont have a favicon.ico icon for mysite.com. So it leeds to the 404 redirection page, and that redirects to my blog. So how come the mysite.com/favicon.ico is in my referrer list of myblog.com? Its impossible since the visits come from the 404 redirection page.

se's will search for it by default , so will many browsers. It will also show as 404 if someone tries to bookmark the site..

    suggestion, add an ico

Just a 16x16 .ico. Normally shows up in your error logs if you don't have one and those can get big if you have many bookmarks.

It goes in the root of your site, well same place as your index page.

There is some code you can put in the head section of your html if you want to point to it in a different directory or name. Say you have more than one page that can bookmark on your site. I'd have to look the syntax up myself, so google it if you need it.

thanks for the link, though i didnt get an answer yet on my question why it shows up as a referrer, since i got a 404 page that redirects, so not directly from the index page of mysite.com. Does this mean it looks for a favicon on my 404 page too or something?

By the way i used that link too and i created a favicon and put the code in my index page and now the icon only shows in firefox. Doesnt IE support the favicon?

I was under the impression photoshop can't create .ico files.

You can get a plugin for Photoshop that makes it a snap to create icons.
