domain name with dashes or not for two words?

when u look exclusively to the domain name only, what is better for SE listings when you have two words, a domain name with or without dashes?

For example if you wanna target the keywords 'wet clam', is it better to get a domain like this:
wetclam.com

or like this:
wet-clam.com

?

From what I know dashes do a bit better for SEO. Depends on the search engine. As far as type in's, only premium dash domains such as free-sex.com, the-hun.net or sex-chat.com would ever get thing decent ;)

it doesn't matter if you don't know what you are doing and don't have SEO'ed content

if you know what are you doing though, it doesn't really matter either way...i have some single word domains that don't even pertain to the content, and I have high listings...but some of my hyphenated keyword targetted domain names don't even get close to the top...same methods used to promote on both instances too

This is such a NON issue ....

The domain name is NOT going to determine how you rank.

Here's your proof :

Build inbound links young grasshopper ... build lots of links

just have a lot back links. There isn't much impact from the actual dash or not that I have seen.

well, partly true.

IF the domain name is the same as the keyword phrase it will enhance PR for that particular keyword phrase.
