You're about 75% right. Everyone acknowledges that the U.S army had contribution to the war against the Germans, but just like you my father, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, uncles, and etc were in the army as well and fought the war too. For you to say "we saved your asses" is the biggest overstatement in history.
