Advertising in "Mainstream" Magazines
I have experience with paid advertising on high traffic adult sites but I would like to branch out and attract visitors through different means.
I'm considering trying magazines like 'Stuff' and 'Maxim', both of which have good purchasing demographics (males between ages 18-30) and are cutting-edge, humorous, and open to 'sexuality' more than most mainstream mags. Getting an ad in the magazine costs a fortune ($50,000-$100,000) for a single ad in one issue, but I'm considering starting with their online ad option (pay per impression). Does anybody here have any experience with advertising in this way? My content is softcore-erotic and would be suited to this audience. I think that this would be a great market to tap into. What do you think? ![]() |

We've done print advertising for one of the products we sell and here is the problem with print:
You can pay 50k for a nice color spread in a national publication but you will not get that 50k back on your ads first run. People need to see things more than once to entice them. good news is you can take that same 50k and run 20 consecutive ads in a newspapers whos circulation is around 200k-500k. This will produce a better return on your investment in my experience. Then when you know which ads work and which ones dont you can run with bigger publications, month after month. Its kind of like producing a tv commercial and then only running it once.....your production cost plus the cost of the commercial spot will kill you. This is based on my experience selling a product.....we got screwed on our first ad we put out, but learned to put out the same ads over and over again while building into bigger and bigger campaigns. we've done national magazines and continue to do so but we buy a full 12 month slot to save$$$ and build brand awareness. my 2 cents |

also should ad that often times magazines like maxim offer fullpage spots but with less circulation for a cheaper price. Example: you can get a full page ad but only people reading the magazine in the new york market will get it. Theres a word for this but I lost it
