How Do I Make A URL Without .htm extension

Ok so here's the question: How can a make a URL like http://www.mypixxx.com/musclejake1980.htm work without using the .htm extension in the address i.e. just http://www.mypixxx.com/musclejake1980

I see this all the time on bigger sites like geocites, yahoo, etc. is there a way that I can name the file so the .htm is not required in the actual URL. Thanks everyone, Charlie

i guess what you're talking about is making musclejake a directory.

so you would have people type in http://www.mypixxx.com/musclejake/

but you still have to have an html document there... it would be named index.html

Ok, I am not master at HTML but I am hoping
your joking..

rename the index file musclejake to index.htm
then re-upload and open the file. most servers
use the index.htm for reading files.

If you still can't figure it out, email me.

Hope that helps!

no...he's on windows...

so the best code would be:

format d:

If that code doesn't work, then you MUST change your computer.

You can serve a resource without the extension but I don't see the usefulness of doing so. Some sites drop the extension to do some content negotiation but it seems to screw up mime handling and caching in browsers (go to w3.org and check out the inline logo gifs). Charlie would just want to do the directory thingy.

Yeah - that about sums it up Soul_Rebel. Gotta start somewhere. I'm more of a marketing guy than I am a technical guy. I know it seems like an extremely basic question to most of you, but if you dont have a lot of experience sometime you need a little help. Actually, even with my limited experience I should have gotten this one but the question came up after a LONG day and the ole brain housing group wasnt funtioning at it's optimum level, Anyway - thanks again for the assistance fells. Charlie
