When the first Diesel engine was invented, it ran on peanut oil.

I drive a VW TDI on biodiesel and get 1100KM on a $40 tank. (46MPG)

You can take used fryer oil, mix it with a little methanol and lye, and pour the resulting biodiesel straight in the tank with no modifications. It's better for the engine, the environment, everything. This is one of many solutions for the future.

Hydrogen is so incredibly inefficient it'll never take off. Besides, their isn't enough platinum in the entire world to make very many fuel cells. It's a total pipe dream.
