How much should a programmer be paid?

Hi,
I'm in need of a programmer for a project, and I would like to know, what's the normal payrate?

The language would be C and PHP...

Thanks,
Steve

How much is that in US$?

And....the project is a non-adult one.

Thanks,
Steve

C'mon Rod!

You have to give us an idea of exactly what it is you want to programmer to program in order to get a better idea of cost.

Custom design will vary according to type of programming required.

I need a SE script with a bot that scan pages....and a lot of more features that I won't post here....just ICQ me #36049195 if you want to know more (and if you're a programmer that is willing to work on it...

That is for a non-adult project, like I wrote above...

Looks like you will need something with good performance, and GOOD programmers that can do fast and optimal code costs a bunch, you won't get away below 50$/hour if you want a good one. Obviously you can get a cheap guy that will do it for less but maybe you won't be happy with the results (since I suppose the bot that scans the pages will need to be quite fast to process the most pages as possible). If someone tells you he will do the bot in PHP you shouldn't even consider to hire him. The admin part is OK but the bot MUST be in C (ask for a multithreaded bot).

Refer to the thread on how much to pay models. Why should programmers be any different?

I've been told Microsoft hires a team of young programmers at about $30 an hour to handle development of their applications such as Windows. Although they do have senior level programmers that are paid a salary and have benefits, the bulk of their work is handled by young programmers that are paid about $30 an hour.

Yeah and that show. You better get a good programmer then ;)
It can very possible be cheaper to hire a programmer that cost $100 per hour than one that charge $50 per hour.
Depending on how fast they write etc
I've seen some programmers charge $200 hour and got offers from others charging $15 per hour and less if it is big jobs
