That link is why BVF's opening statement in this thread is so dead on ball's accurate truth.

Thanks BVF.

I'm telling you guys, the economic and social structure of Earth as we know it has changed. Within 48 hours if riots and mass murder don't break out, it's a sign of hope for mankind.

This is going to be the deciding point of how we all do business with one another forever.

What's even scarier is the NOAA says the bulk of hurricanes for this year are yet to come.

I heard that the NOAA has predicted this year to be one of the worst ever
for Hurricanes and Tropical Storms and in either September or October we might see more Hurricanes in a single month period ever recorded.

Soo MANY more to come it looks like ! and that is fucking insane,
scary shit.

Also ....great to see a nice Intellectual thread for once where people
are showing they have some intelligence outside of TGP's and Paysites.
More than ... "bro " "dude" " would you hit it " LOL :2 cents:

XXX Tony, you said a mouthful. Very important response.

That's something we all need to do is look at how this disaster affects us as people and as businessmen.

I won't futz around and act like business isn't important. Making as much money as you can and as fast as you can has never been more important. I say that because of exactly what BVF said at the top! Bottom line is if you ain't got dollars you got 'hollers'.

We have to look at how the web reacts, how computers and servers held up during a crisis, banking, transfers, signups, rebills. We have to analyze exactly each step of the way to maximize prevention and recovery in the future.

New Orleans will probably be safe once again once it is rebuilt...I just know that property will go CHEAP during the rebuilding process. It's a good time for people looking to relocate.

That happened after hurricane Andrew in South Florida. Homestead was devastated. Before the hurricane, it was a pit. Now, years later a lot of it has been redeveloped with very expensive homes.

lots of truth here.

if you've spent any time in NO you know that much of frame slum buildings were just waiting to fall down anyway. 90% of the french quarter is just old junky buildings not being torn down only because of their historical significance.

for people who have insurance (most property owners) this hurricane will allow them to rebuild, and in 2 years you will see a revitalization of downtown.

and lots of the rif raff will be moved out of town into public housing projects.

sorry, but existing downtown NO was a dirty dangerous toilet and gentrification is a good thing for that town. the town is built on tourism and oil and it's needed a good douching for a long time. this week it got it.

Greg B 08-31-2005 10:32 PM

BVF is again right on the money. If you're watching the ABC Special about Katrina, they're saying the same thing. This addition is that it may be too expensive to rebuild.

The demolition costs and labor alone will take years. Rebuilding after that after the new building codes will take years...

And then there'll be more hurricanes. They don't stop just because of FEMA.

Sounds nice but Bush cut $75 mil for New Orleans to improve their levy system. Real fucking smart.

I agree with most of what is said, with the exception of it being cheap to live down there. Although the land will be dirt cheap, won't insurance be astronomical?

Greg B 08-31-2005 10:43 PM

The amount of money just to clean up is gonna break people. Add to that the new bankruptcy laws go into effect before any victims can assess their damages means you'll now have maybe 100,000 people in debt til death.

You're all looking at how unprepared and unfocused we are as a species toward disaster. The technologies to withstand and laugh at a Category 5 storm has been here for decades. We didn't implement them because it was too inconvenient or expensive or some other nonsense.

Considering that hurricane season isn't half over just one more devestating storm will bankrupt a good chunk of the U.S. population.

War is too expensive and Bush is not about to give up his war to take care of his citizens. That fucks up his plans.

Yesterday 1,000 Iraqis died in a stampede. You would figure a culture as old as recorded history would behave better. It's an indicator of their mentality and how useless this war is.

Just wait, when the public realizes the economic repercussions it'll be too late.

emthree 08-31-2005 10:50 PM

heh, just spoke to someone living there.
Some are hoping for this to happen.

Greg B 08-31-2005 11:05 PM

Real estate gurus are gonna cringe when they see the new insurance rates. Nobody will rent there as the rents won't cover the insurance.

last time i checked the Homestead Act was in the late 1800's. you can't just claim land any more. if this has changed, please let me know. thanks.

moron.

BVF didnt mention anyting about property being taken away - he was speaking of the people who own property arent going to rebuild to have the poor move back but to have people with money move in and the poor will be relocated into cheap housing outside of N.O.

This is the only opportunity they'll ever have to get all of the underclass people out of the city and revamp the tax base of new orleans.

yup and the opportunity will be siezed, thats gauranteed and you can fucking bet and invest on that.
