My wife is one of the most generous and compassionate people I've ever met. Years before we met, when she was in her mid 20's - every sunday she would wake up early and make 50 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She'd drive around the "homeless areas" in San Diego and hand them out to whomever she saw living on the street.

My wife had little money at the time but a lot of heart. It was not her responsibility to do what she did BUT it's her nature to be kind and help others.

We should generally be thankful to any person or country that lends a helping hand regardless of how much and what % per capita.

A question for those that think the total amount is the only important number. By your logic, the US is more genreous than any of the single small countries that donated more per capita. (aside from the current administration) however the only reason the US is able to give so much is due to its population. i don't see why americans view that as a slap in the face. if america had a population like denmark or whatever of course each person would have to chip in more to keep up. america is what keeps the world economy going but it wouldn't be a world encomy without the rest of the world. we should all be hating on china (instead of each other) because they have a large population and don't give shit and still benefit from the economy.

GDP = consumption + investment + exports - imports

sure...the whole point here is to put it in relative terms so you can compare two countries with different population...

No we're not considering growth...nor recession... because...that's not the point...

The point here is to know how much countries give to charity PER CAPITA....which makes sense since it takes the population size into consideration..
OR expressing it as a % of their GDP..which takes the Gross Domestic Product into consideration...

now since the 2 arent base around the same variable (population VS. Gross Domestic Product), they won't yield the same results...however...USA still come up far from first in the two cases...

sure there are other variables to consider...

but these 2 ways at least try to take SOME variables into consideration...to compare 2 different countries...while you only take the total dollar ammount and don't consider a single variable...
