Interesting point made by BBC - Did US bring this on itself?

There seems to be growing evidence that climate change is partly responisble for the growing number/power of hurricanes.

Still Bush refuses to ratify Kyoto.

Shouldnt we blame the world then considering the world has contributed to the global warming problem?

Then shouldnt the world also help us recover from this?

It's never too early to deal with global warming - it's been a threat for as long as I can remember and it's still not stopping.

But for the immediate future (the next few days/weeks) the real danger is that the Gulf of Mexico is so warm right now ... God forbid another tropical storm or hurricane comes in there.

I hate Bush, but you can't blame him for something that has been happening for the last couple decades.

If you want to blame someone, blame the american auto industry who are so far behind every other industry technologically. Cars should have been running off of hydrogen years ago...

Except that would piss off the oil companies... etc, etc, etc.

Just read it in the paper today, GM and Ford had an average loss of over $1,000 on EVERY car they sold this first quarter. While Japanese companies had an average profit of over $1,000 on theirs.

Aparently, US companies didn't learn the last time there was a gas crisis. Fucking idiots.

yes, we brought this upon ourselves, while all 290+ million of us were outside spraying hairspray cans into the air causing the earths temperature to spike, bush fired up his "hurricane machine" and unleashed it upon us.

WTF do you really expect? humans are parasites, sucking the life out of this planet, you dont expect the planet to fight back a little?

I'm pretty sure mother nature got angry and the earth was a crazy place before man arrived. We're lucky the planet is as inhabitable as it is, and this kind of thing only happens here and there.

Yes and Bush and his daddy had HUGE investment in oil companies. So naturally they are going to be for something that will cost them BILLIONS.

We were on our way with solar technology in the 70's then Reagan and Bush basically killed that reaseach. I rememebr back in the late 70's in schooland hearing about how in 2000 cars would be solar powered. Then Reagan and Bush cut of funding for that kind of reasearch. Idiots don't realize that solar and hydrogen power cars would HELP the oil industry. Fucking morons.

Jesus christ, the USA has more strict pollution controls than the countries over in Europe. This shit goes in cycles. If it is USA's fault, how do we fucking explain the previous ice ages, major hurricane cycles, heating, cooling, plate fucking techtonics, mass extinctions in the past....you know what, it must have been fucking Miss Goddamn Cleo knowing that the US is bad. Those saying this shit, just sad. Look in your own backyards. There are many countries that pollute like hell. How do we explain why Mercedes Benz have to be modified to come into US??? HMMM? We are having a major tragedy here. Place blame on world for this shit not just USA. Thanks!

Of course Bush can be blamed, for not stepping up and doing what needs to be done as far as the early stages of changing our oil consumption, particulary in a time when it's blatantly obvious things need to change. But then that would cut into his cronies funds, we can't have that.

People, for the most part, don't give a shit until it effects them personally. It's just the way it is and always will be.

Example: How long to you think Graffitti & Tagging would be tolerated if it were done on personal cars and homes?

Yet we put out MORE pollution than Europe who has 3 times the population. Yes we have had ice ages and yes we have had period of much warmer weather. And it may be we are on a natural warning cycle anyways. That doesn't mean we need to contribute to it. That's like picking at a scab. No it didn't cause the injury, but it aint helping heal it either.

No he's no responsible for lack of action EBFORE he became president, but he CAN be blamed for lack of action and/or harmful actions while governor of Texas( the most polluted state in the US ) and as president. Global warming may not affect him or even his kids but it WILL affect his grandkids and how a so called CHRISTIAN can not care about their own grandkids is beyond me.

agree, just hate the US bashing when it is a Global issue. We all contribute to the welfare of this planet and not fair to place blame on shoulders of one country that gives more aid and relief than all other countries combined. pisses me off abit. We will work this out, but probably too late now. Just filled up my gas tank because it is going to suck soon.

You don't have to wait for the government to pass laws to make a difference. Most states in the US offer "Green Power". Take a few minutes to see if it is available in your area and sign up for it. http://www.epa.gov/greenpower/locator/index.htm
My family and I purchase 100% of our power generated from wind turbines. By purchasing electricity generated by renewable sources, it forces your power company to buy more and place it on the grid.

Nope nothing in my area. If I could afford to get solar pannels on my house I would since you do get a tax credit for that.

Listen China dand India are going to be HUGE problems in the near future as they become more industrialized. So the importance of the US curbing our emissions isn't because we cause all the pollution( though at present we are responsible for 25% of it ) it's that if we don't we have ZERO credibility when the day comes that we HAVE to ask India and China to do it because they are putting out so much.

Im sorry , but PEOPLE are the problem......not some leader of a country.

That means you and me. We are the problem.

And the world goes through 20 year cycles of violent hurrricanes, there has been scientific proof that shows, that every 20 or so years, we enter a period of alot of hurricanes, and periods with little to no hurricanes.

I think a big part of the problem with the world today is stupid people.

once we can start educating people correctly, then maybe we have a chance to start turning around what damage our race has done to the world.

yea, wait till they start burning all the that coal that they are sitting on.

as energy prices rise, so will the use of coal in those countries, and the amount of coal that has been reported that they are sitting on waiting to burn, will make global warming rise exponentially.

Jesus people everyone knows it wasn't global warming or Bush and his huricane death ray.. It was god because it's a city of Sin.. You can't have women running around showing off their boobs every year and not expect him to take notice.

Repent ye all you sinners before it's too late..If your not carful Jesus is going to blow up the internet. Now send me some money so all your sins can be forgiven..

I saw an oil company propaganda video saying they were doing "god's work" by contributing to global warming and making cold areas lush and fertile - !!!

New Orleans was hit by Camille in 69, and an unnamed hurricane in 1915 that are on the list of the ten most intense hurricanes in recorded history. Doesn't seem to be getting any worse really, especially since the intensity and number of hurricanes yearly seems to be a cyclical pattern when its graphed.

I think its agreed by most scientists now that there is a connection between carbon emissions/global warming/weather paterns.
