Depending in what condition you are starting from, you gotta be really strict on your diet, do cardio a few times a week and lift weights three or four days a week to even get close to that kind of shape.

Not everyone can get ripped I dont care what muscle mags tell you.

I worked at Gold's Gym. I went thru boot camp. I train at Gracie Academy. I know a little bit about fitness. Genetics has a LITTLE to do with it. Black guys are sometimes naturally cut. Mexicans sometimes have more trouble than other races getting cut. However, ANYONE can get in damn good shape. You might not be able to get totally fabulously ripped up, but you can damn sure get good definition and well defined abs, arms and shoulders, not to mention legs and back.

I suspect you're looking for an excuse to not work out.

Lifting doesn't make you cut. Cardio does. Ever wonder why the men in the "strongest man" contest aren't ripped? They don't do enough cardio. They lift all day.

low weight, high reps can and will make you cut.

It's because of the cardio involved in high repetitions. Heavy weight at high reps will do exactly the same, only problem is that you can't do high reps at high weights. That means that weight has less to do with it than reps.

I dunno, I never heard that from the trainers at the gym. Cardio knocks off the fat and water weight, which helps get you cut, but my understanding is that the low weight reps sculpts the muscle. Why aren't all long distance runners and swimmers cut? Swimmers in particular have very rounded, not very well defined muscle mass. The muscle is there, it's just not cut.

In any case, this is irrelevant. The point is that you CAN get cut, you CAN get a well-defined musculature and you can get in good cardio shape. It's just like everything else in life: You get back what you put into it. If you're willing to do the work, you'll get the results.

Also, come to think of it, there isn't much cardio work in low weight reps if you're in shape. I can curl 40 lbs for an hour without running out of breath or getting my heart rate up much. My arms will burn as I use up the last of the lactic acid though.

Is this some kind of a joke? I really hope you don't believe what you're saying, because it is 100% false and very laughable.

You make valid points.

I'm kind of tired, but one last thing. Swimmers are usually very well defined. It is one of the best exercises you can do and works many muscles constantly while keeping a higher heart rate.

Good night.

Steroids do a body good.

Weights are cool to look in good shape, but I'm not sure it helps you as you age too much... a good sport might be the way to go on that, one that you can participate in at whatever speed is comfortable for you.

Helio Gracie is 94 and might still be able to kick my ass
