WG,
the fit she threw because of it was what made us all say "wtf"
HE had saved all his money to buy a condo, and give her a decent wedding and she flipped out because her ring didn't cost 3k it cost 500... pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Odie 08-30-2005 01:47 PM

OMg she's really got you locked in huh Brad??? You better think this thing through carefully dood, don't do it just b/c your mom and her are pressuring you into this! :)

No more ahem* spontaneious "PHOTOSHOOTS" :warning

knought 08-31-2005 02:47 AM

its better to think and spend more on your future... you might be giving her the best ring and then what happens after???? :)

you are right girl. it's not really practical to spend too much on material things. :thumbsup

People spend way too much on ring and all the junk that goes with the wedding. More people want the wedding than the marriage and forget it is the marriage that is meant to be the most valuable. If the love is real I wouldn't even care if I didn't have a ring as long as we were together.

Don't want to read all of the other responses. RUN!!!!!!!!!!

Two month salary? Are you insane! I even wouldn't pay 1 month salary. You can get a decent ring for around 2-3K$, that's more than enough! The last thing I want to spend money on is the ring around my future wife's hand.

margarita 08-31-2005 06:54 AM

marriage is not about some expensive rings :)

It's about :liebe028: :love-boob :wetkiss :love2suck :spawn

Just a heads up but it was the lie she was freaked out about.

Go for a low quality diamond. You can save a few k and still get one that impresses the friends and shows you care. The jewelers all try to move you up in quality and clarity. Why? They look the same. Resale value(there is none) should not be an overriding factor.

i paid 4500 for my feonsays engagement ring
shes happy with it, its big enuff where people notice it and compliment her on it, but not where its 2 big and people consider it "gaudy"

honestly anything over like 5k i consider overkill.. i mean its a ring for crying out loud

What he said.

Spend the money on the pre-nup, and get a smallish but nice ring.

Then if you are together at 5 years, you upgrade.

10 years, another upgrade.

Kind of like a incentive/reward program. ;)

I'd rather have one of the fake diamond rings and spend the money on other stuff like traveling ...

depends on a few things what you can afford is your wife to be a big jewelry person or not. I wont buy my wife expensive jewelry anymore because what I have bought is collecting dust in a draw, so its a waste of money. If she truly loves you its the size of your heart that matters not the rock.

Babagirls 08-31-2005 11:15 AM

my first engagement (when i was 18 yrs old & stupid lol), i found my ring at a Kmart by accident actually. it was a heart-shaped emerald ring, i think it was on sale from $200 to $60 or something. im not a big jewlery fan. as long as it looks nice & wont rot away after a year of normal wear & tear, then i dont care. marriage is about love, not how big a diamond is.

Ahh the magic of the DeBeers long marketing campaign. Possibly the best marketing ever done at that.
Was not long ago that a standard band was common for a wedding ring. Yet they put on this amazing feet of advertising and changed the minds of almost everyone, while being able to controll the diamond market the entire time and keep prices artifically inflated.

pornguy 08-31-2005 11:18 AM

Buy what nakes you and her happy. That is what we did. My wifes ring ended up being about 3k, and mine was a deal fr 2k included with the other. Otherwise hers was 6k and mine 4.5

Trixxxia 08-31-2005 11:21 AM

Brad, I'd say go with what your heart likes & your wallet agrees. If you know she really loves jewelry I'm sure she's mentioned what she likes - so spending a little extra will make her more happy.

Personally, I'm not into jewelry so unless you're bathing in dough, I think someone spending 20k on a ring is money that could have been put to use to benefit the couple rather than dress a finger - but that's me.

Exactly. Diamonds are a HUGE monopoly.

They have enough diamonds locked away to pave driveways. They do this to keep the price up.

ronaldo 08-31-2005 12:26 PM

It would depend on how long I intended to stay married to her.
