Yeah, but like I said - I read a lot so I'm used to seeing all the same words having completely different meanings

I think you are full of shit if you say you got them all. Once you read the sentence and understand the context then it's easy but not before on a couple of them.

English would be a very confusing language to learn as a 2nd language!

Umm, it's pretty easy to know which one goes in the sentence just by how it's written. You can't just interchange words because they are spelled the same.

Of course - but there are other elements to take into account aswell.

For instance - I don't know about the rest of you but I can't remember the last time I used or heard 'row' (argument) in a sentence?

"12.. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row."

Personally I read that straight away as row (row of tables). But having read the sentence see that row 'argument' is what fits. However if you heard someone say this sentence it would be a whole different story due to the pronunciation.

Row is an ugly word when you look at it isnt' it?.

English is an enormous language and there are many words that are rarely or by certain demographics(not taking into consideration slang here that's another topic).
