      Good question!

Will China just forgive some of OUR debts to them?

Can we expect a flood of donations from the EU to help us out after this natural disaster?

True. However, I think his point was we, as the United States (and many other countries), often lend support to other countries when natural disaster strikes.

We don't NEED it. So don't expect it.
But if you want to start somewhere, start pulling money out of Iraq and put it back into our own country.

its not whether you NEED it or NOT need it,

its called gratitude, when you help those in times of of need those same should also help you in your time of need.

that is why i do not understand why the USA donates to any of these backwards POS countries, they all end up hating anyway.

I think that the criteria for helping a country in need is fairly simple.

They have to be in need.

Saying that, Im sure China would be MORE than happy to send you guys some money. They would see it as the ultimate insult to the US.

rich countries don't necessarily make for rich citizens.

there are tens of thousands of poor folk in NO right now who more than likely have just had their lives get even worse.

My favorite is when the "backwards POS countries" get all pissed off because we don't give ENOUGH support. The tsunami last Christmas was the perfect example. Countries were going crazy because the United States didn't help ENOUGH. "Oh my God, they have all this money and ONLY give $XXX support."

It's pretty silly and proves that no matter how much the world says they don't want our help, they DO expect us to help and take action. I'm sure this comment will bring on the haters... have fun.

Iraq is going to help you for sure, as a gratitude to making their country the Switzerland of the Middle East

Yes but the United States is rich so why should anyone else lend support!

Someone mentioned above that we should pull money out of Iraq to help with the situation. He's on to something. We should pull money out of somewhere. Pull it out of supporting other countries.

Eqecat now estimates a maximum $25 billion payout, which would make Katrina more expensive than Hurricane Andrew, the costliest U.S. hurricane ever, according to the Insurance Information Institute.
