:mad Laptop wont power up!

maybe someone here can help me out...

I have an old dell latitude laptop. It wont turn on. It worked fine yesterday, then I pushed the start button and nothing. The power cord lights up, but no lights on the laptop. I thought maybe tyhe power cord is fucked somehow, so I tried another one, and still no power.

What the hell should I be looking for or trying? I tried with and without the battery. Removed all accessories still nothing. Any ideas?

my dell sometimes goes to sleep and doesn't come back out. i have to unplug it and remove the battery then hold the power button on for a few seconds. I asume you already did that.

Dell laptops suck, i'm currently looking into an alienware laptop

Man no way! Dell laptops are the shit!

Mine (b4 it died) went through pure hell lol, broken hinges, missing keys, crack in the screen, expoed wires, dropped, submerged in water, fell down a flight of stairs, got slammed with mud at about 65mph (web broadcast at a demo derby lol) and it STILL WORKED! lol

(Remember Al Bundy'a Dodge?)

In the end a $5.00 part killed it lol, but I have to say from my exp with that Dell laptop and the 4 years of pure hell I put it through Dell's are damn good laptops.

No, it should still work when it's plugged in even if the battery is dead (it switches to a direct circuit transfer at that point). Let me ask you this before trying to diagnose it for you, do any of the lights on the laptop itself (case) come on when you plug it in and try to turn the power on?

I have an older PIII Inspiron 4000 and a newer PIV Extreem XPS Laptop. I'll agree that the 4000 is the shit. It'll take anything i can throw at it, but they don't make them like that anymore. Maybe it's just the extra features that the XPS has.

the 4000 doesn't have any broken keys or exposed wires but the touch pad has a mind of it's own.

I plan on another good couple of year out of it.

No

No lights come on the laptop itself. I know for sure its not charging the battery if that helps any.

Well then spread the news. There is currently a class action suit in the works against Dell and their piece of shit batteries and charging units. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 thats about a year and a half old, already went through 2 batteries and now the fucking thing wont charge anything. Dell told me the motherboard is bad and wants $800 to replace it. I will never buy another Dell. They used to be good but over the past two months I have had major failures in 4 Dell computers. On top of it all when you call you cant understand the fuck from India on the phone.

Here is a link to the law firm getting a class action together

It's most likely a short circuit where the adapter plugs into the mobo. Not good news. You didn't wiggle the adapter where it plugs into the back of the laptop did you? Thats what usually short circuits it
