Category 5, 175 mph, Mayor Orders Mandatory Evac

Special report hit me during my sunday news show.

This shit is scary but it may not be the worst case scenario. The storm is Cat 5 now while it's sunny and hot out but could drop down to a 4 or even 3 overnight as it approaches shore in the morning.

I know a Cat 3 or 4 is still fucked up but the city was designed to survive a 3.

Damn they are saying the only shelter is the Super Dome and there will be no power there and possibly no running water for days or longer . You would basically be taking shelter in one big sauna , thats fucked up .
Hope anyone down there stays safe .

If the levee's go, you're talking about New Orleans being under about 35 feet of water.

That's beyond disaster level and would be catastrophic destruction of the entire city.

Probably at least 500,000 homes that will be destroyed and then you'll have over a million people homeless. Thousands will be drowned.

No water. No power. No food. No effective law enforcement. No fire protection. No transportation system. You're talking about the end of a major US city for at least 6 months at the quickest.

I bet that's what will happen - it will hit in the morning and will have been downgraded to a Cat 3 due to the cooler overnight waters, so there's hope yet

I hope so, but doubt it. It went from a 3 to a 5 overnight last night. Since I am about an hour NW of New Orleans, I sure hope you are right though.

Jenny - we're about the same - NW of there - and really Im not only concerned about the fact that if this stays its course it will destroy NO but if you go a little west and south you will find a bunch of chemical plants that lay below sea level that make some of the most dangerous chemicals in the world - and having worked out there for years,. they cant keep from leaking in good times - Im real worries whats gonna happen when they go underwater. The nuke plant out there will be fine - they already shut down and have their emer plan already implemented according to friends I have working there - but all of those chem plants worry me a heck of a lot.

Ja, I'm prayin' it drops to a Cat 3 but it don't look like it. It hit Cat 5 around 8 or 9am their time I guess. Now they're saying it won't hit land til AFTER 7 am on Monday morning. AFTER!!!

That means it's got HOURS of sun and hot water to feed it.

KRL may well be right. So is Will76. What they've said already is what's been corroborated by the news.

The Superdome is the last chance. Don't know if it would withstand a Cat 5 storm though. It would be FUCKED up if a half million people piled in there and the dome got destroyed.

Whatever, if that storm hits head on you can kiss NO goodbye. Also, I understand they bury their dead ABOVE ground. Hope them graves and crypts can withstand flooding.

Well, with all that water, fire doesn't sound like it would be a poblem.

Wonder if a high rise would make it through say a Cay 4?

Linster! Didn't know about the chem plants or sewage waste plants. What are the names/locations. I need to do a map QUICK.

This means insurance rates will be going up again. Oil prices too with loss of the offshore platforms.

The water temperature in the GOM doesn't drop dramatically just because the sun goes down.

You can say that again! I mentioned this in a thread earlier last week.

News just said the oil rigs are pumping out whatever they can and that a barrel will shoot to $70 at a minimum by mid week.

So can i get a 4 star on bourbon street before it hits, that shit should be fucking fun!

My carry permit extends to LA, i'll be just fine if shit hits the fan.

Man what a fun sight to see, 35 foot of water barreling down from the 8th floor of a 4-star.
