Official Bill Maher 8/26/05 thread (show starts in 5 min (11PM ET)

Any of my fellow Real Time aficionados on tonight?

This week Bill welcomes guests columnist Dan Savage, Gov. Mike Huckabee and playwright/actor Eve Ensler. Plus, via satellite, Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, TX and author/musician Kinky Friedman.

Last week's season premiere was OK. I was really disappointed with Chris Rock, he was so out of the loop... I thought he would be a perfect guest for the show.

Man, Cindy Sheehan is a really bright, articulate and funny lady

I wish they would keep the "on satellite" guests for a little while to interract with the panel.

Overall a good show tonight, worth catching in the repeats this week if you missed it.

One of my favorite comments from tonight came from Dan Savage when he said the left is snide and sarcastic but the right is dangerous and violent

The season premiere was pretty lame, I just wanted Chris Rock to stfu if he had nothing worthwhile to add to the conversation.

I'll catch this weeks in about a half hour, I'm looking forward to it based on what you all have said about it.

I think Chris Rock was just a little out of his league last week. He seemed at times to be a bit bewildered at the intelligence of the other guests. On top of that he appeared to be a bit hungover or something. I think the show would have been much better if he hadn't shown up and they had just been short a guest.

They have some clips from the monologues and New Rules on the HBO site:

I agree. I was getting annoyed with Rock's comments about gas prices. I was also embarrassed for him because he did seem in be on another planet and had nothing humorous to say.

This week's show was great. I was totally impressed with Dan Savage, and I had no idea the protesting lady was so insightful. This hour always flies by. He has a great group of writers.

And I discovered *Weeds* on Showtime. Since it was my first time seeing it, I don't know how I will feel in the future, but it was FUNNY. That scene with the high school girl asking permission to go to the rest room was priceless. What happened to her could ruin your entire high school experience.

Dan Savage was one of the best guests ever, he had me cracking up all through the show. Check out his website, The Stranger.

Air America Radio has been talking to Cindy Sheehan while she is in Crawford, TX nearly every day if you want to hear more from her. Randi Rhodes is going down there today, so her show will be live from there tomorrow.

But wait till you meet him. Or read any of his antics from the past 10 years.
He's an obnoxious, egotistical asshole who writes a column advising STRAIGHT people on having sex.

His site isn't a gay site, it's a site about pop culture that happens to be run by a gay man, I like that. I could tell he's a big ego but damn he is funny on TV... I'd prefer to keep any exposure I have to him there
