The numbers dont work folks when you add everything in.

oh you're right, its ok to steal because the affiliates ask for too much. well guess what? no one is forcing anyone to take these affiliates. have you eve heard of supply and demand? just because you arent knowledgeable enough to run a successfull pps program doesnt mean there isnt anyone else out there that is.

Temp1 08-26-2005 12:17 AM

It is much better to have self-regulatory groups in place to investigate/report unethical (putting it mildly) practices like shaving then to have the gov't come in and start babysitting (again, putting it mildly).

It's a good post if you look it at from a certain angle :thumbsup

LOL, I'm surprised that 20/20 hasn't had some of their reporters become temporary "undercover" webmasters... they love reporting on the adult industry :upsidedow

I would much rather they figure a way to rid of some of the idiots in this biz, like the many posting in this thread.

It's not hard for someone to figure out who shaves and who doesn't, if they have any understanding of their traffic and what it's worth!

Im not saying it justifies theft Im saying, to give the affiliate all they want and still stay in business .I can see how the practice can happen. I dont have a affiliate program and if I did no no one would join because I couldnt afford to give away the house. Im going to say join my program I will give you 10 dollars a sale and you host your own galleries but I can guarantee I will not shave. No one would join, only my friends who like me or take pity on me would lol.
My experience with affiliates was in main stream I ran a program for a publicly traded .com and I had P@L responsiblity .

actually you could pay what you charge, and you should set up for retention. So you'll end up with a real number of 25.00 per sale to be comfortable. Until you have solid retention numbers and then you could decide how much and if to increase payouts. But you sure can't start at 40. per sale and decrease it.

I understand your point tony. authough it's really and honestly not as cut and dry as you have put it, you're on the correct path with your thinking.

It's a very rare case when you will see a NEW pps come out of the blocks at 40.00 per sale and live to tell you about it later.

The sponsors decided to give that to affiliates ... they make competition between themselves ... their fucking problem if they offer something they can't deliver ...

But if someone were shaving, this would be the way to shut that shit down.

A few years ago I was shopping for affiliate tracking/reporting sw, and the seller, who I will not name, did whisper in my ear that his system had built-in shaving, if I wanted it. Just dial it in, it's a config variable.

I did not use that system.

Yet, I have doubts that programs can be nabbed this way because shaving also happens all the time, for legitimate reasons. The more the feds delve into this the more they'll see that it's not worth pursuing.

The affiliate tracking script sellers, otoh, might be easily doable if they still offer shaving as a feature. Pretty hard to explain away why they have you on tape describing how their shaving feature works.

Tony404 doesnt have a program. In fact, he isn't even a webmaster, All hes got is a post count.

Shaving is theft and programs who do it are lowlife scumbags.

True dat.

While I do not agree or condone shaving. It's the cost of doing business. They have to balance their books somehow.
