Attention Perl Experts
I need someone who can write an affiliate program for me the requirements are this:
It is not dependant on the thank you page.....some of my customers simply close their browser on the approval page, so programs dependant on the thank you page would not credit all signups for my webmasters which suxs! Referring urls or at least a top 10 referring urls Something the will easily integrate with quick books so I can pay people on time. 2 tiers deep per sale system that supports a different payout for recurring billing. This is a non-adult product site. Different commisions for different sales, a 129.00 order pays a 40 dollar commision, a 50 dollar order pays a 15 dollar commision for example. Most important to me is the first thing...I want all signups counted, regardless of if they hit the thank you page. This will probably require some custom form work. I use Netbilling If any one is intersted and can do this at a fairly reasonable price let me know. thanks |

How much Ill pay will depend Id like to see examples of work first.....I am very serious about having this done, and done right from the start. So someone capable of doing what I ask will be paid accordingly.

Gotys, if you are in chicago and are good with perl and can do what I asked let me know. We have an office not to far from you and it would be ideal to work with someone close by.

*Sigh*, sometimes I wish people would request software based on what they need instead of some language that their little brother overheard in some elite irc chatroom that he hangs out in.
Perl is an awsome language, I use it daily. I can only imagine the horrible mess that a perl based affilate program would turn out to be. It is NOT the cleanest language. The 'I can write the same line different than you' paradigm that perl embraces makes maintainance of any large perl based program an pain. I would hate to be the guy who would have to maintain the code that someone else would write for this. Yeah its do-able, and cheap, but a myriad of perl CGI's and standalone perl scripts...?? ugh.... But then again... if your not getting that much traffic.. check hacks like this aren't to bad. I guess it all depends on the milage you would like to get out of it. |

Hey Florida,
Im not sure that you need to reinvent the wheel, maybe this will help 1) "I need someone who can write an affiliate program for me the requirements are this: It is not dependant on the thank you page....." WSB already has an affiliate program in place that gives the affiliate credit for the sale the moment the sale is approved. 2) "Referring urls or at least a top 10 referring urls" WSB keeps stats on all your affiliates. We do not currently display the top ten but we easily could include that request. 3) "Something the will easily integrate with quick books so I can pay people on time." WSB pays everyone for you, automatically, via ACH. Your affiliates can be directed to an auto submit area to sign up for the Auto ACH. 4) "2 tiers deep" By this I imagine you mean an affiliate who has affiliates. This request has been brought up before with a client who has 450+ affiliates working with us. We were working on the multilevel affiate model and I beleive we may have accomodated him. Our system may support this but I wil have to confirm tomorrow. 5)"Different commisions for different sales." Two things : You can charge a different amount for a first time than a recurring sale We pay out depending on the affiliates total volume for a day. 0 - 50 get x , 51 to 100 gets y. Paid in $$ or % of sale. We do not currently calculate exactly as you requested. Your request doesnt sound unreasonable and Im sure our tech department could work a small detail like that in to the engine. I hope this helps you.

Check out http://www.buildpage.com shopping cart with affiliate software already built in, full accounting backend (dump it into quickbooks or peachtree)). If you need soemthing a bit more customized, email [email protected] for a quote. His stuff is written in ColdFusion...we've been running it on NT/2000, Solaris and linux with no hiccups and it can run in unix as well. The initial price is based on per item in the shopping cart and is extremely flexible and scaleable.

See, the problem is that I really like my gateway, and I have a very good rate with them. I am fully aware that other processors have affilaite programs built in. I just want something that looks nice and credits every signup and I can use for other sites as well.
SO I need some custom work. We are selling a big ticket product (average order of 129.00 when a customer joins an auto-ship program) this means recurring commisions are a factor. I may be wrong but i am 99% sure Netbilling is rather easy to customize to work within my criteria. Ive asked netbilling for references and they gave me a few but they dont return phonecalls. I have lots of work outside of this so im looking for someone I can trust and will do a kickass job, whether its perl or anything else I dont care....just something that makes it easy for me to mange, isnt a pain in the ass, etc. |

No problem
we've also worked with NetBilling (on some client projects), so that's not a problem

Thepiper has not a clue, feel free to ignore him.
The fact is a good Perl programmer will turn out easy to maintain code that any competent perl developer could easily pick up. The same goes for a C developer, etc. On the flip side, bad developers in any language will turn out bad code. Just because you can't read good perl code (I can't mention the number of times I'd have an interview, and the "lead" developer would tell me how "yeah, we replaced this one guy doing this project with our 7 man team, and we're needing to re-write everything because he's using 30 character regexes instead of 5 foreach loops" or other stupidity), does not mean it's not a decent language. To quote a famous line, Perl makes easy things easy, and hard things doable. Not saying it's always the best language, but for most web backend stuff like this I would venture to say it is. For something like this, it is probably one of the top choices, if not THE top choice. Easy to maintain, and extremely easy to extend at a later date. There are also an abundance of perl coders who can maintain the work if the lead developer dies off or something. You're just a Perl Hater. ;) -Phil |
