VAIRES = Dave Stodghill.

I think his welfare checks have stopped rolling in, so he's desperate to make a buck before he has to actually go out and work for a living.

I haven't read a post of yours that wasn't insightful, honest and that contained very valid, educated points.

Don't know you, don't want my tongue up your ass; was just saying, your posts are a pleasure to read among so many that aren't.

Now fuck off! :thumbsup

For the sake of a reason to bump, what is your NMap system, and what does it do?

The Federal Trade Commission has taken action against spammers who utilise the Windows Messenger Service to send their annoying dross all over the Internet. Let's all hear a big cheer.

Citing possible abuses of consumer protection laws, the FTC have targetted San Diego-based D Squared, a company who regularly uses Windows Messenger Service to send spam. The company is to cease spamming immediately, and is to be monitored closely for the next 5 years. They are also banned from using Instant Messenger to spread spam as well.

Nmap is a net/port scanner , meaning it can scan ranges of IP addresses as well as the ports open on each address.It will even give you a (very good) guess of the Operating system on that machine.
When he says distributed I`m guessing he has a bunch of computers with nmap installed on them.This would bring the scanning time down if you are scanning for a lot of IPs
I remember reading a few months ago about a project that set out to map the internet using distributed scanners.They were setting off alarms everywhere.

Yup, called OS Fingerprinting. Basicly simultaneous scanning so you can use several systems to scan at once, all coordinated. It sets off alarms if you scan at to fast of a pace, but if you slow it down it all works well :)
