I speak a little japanese. Just enough to express feelings (hungry, angry, cold, that type of stuff) but it's not that hard to learn the basics when you hang out with japanese people.

yeah its scary at first. i used to never know how to really drive a stick. i had to when we were on vacation in london driving on the wrong side of the road. my friends were drunk so i had to drive. in eurpope you cant get automatic i think because of the gas efficiency.

In okinawa, we went to karaoke, drank like mofos for 3 hours and it only cost $20/person

a 1 bedroom apartment costs around $1k/month everything included. It's slighly more expensive than vancouver, but not that much.

can of beer in a convenience store is cheap. About $2 for a 600ml

in bars, it's about $10 for a beer (all depends on which bar you're in, obviously) sometimes you get crazy deals for the first 2 drinks, $5 each :)

Don't fuck with the Marines when the Fleet is in. They go crazy, fuck everything that moves, and drink anything that will give them a buzz. Been there and seen it.

You won't have any problems as most people on Okinawa speak pretty good English as a result of our 50 years of occupation. Still it is a cool place with good fishing and skin diving. Lots of history too if you like that sort of thing.

I lived in Okinawa for 4 years, absolutely loved it! There really aren't that many rapes, far less then the main land. Of course anytime a rape happens on Oki the news is all over it and tries to turn it into an International incident. The people there love the military, we keep that island alive. The residents mostly complain about the noise around the air bases of all things. If you want to save money, hook up with some military friends and shop on base (if you are not already military yourself). Alcohol is alot cheaper on base and you have a lot more variety to choose from. Where abouts on Oki will you be staying? While you are there you have to get scuba certified, it is very inexpensive and probably the best thing I did while I was there (besides party my ass off). If you have any questions about Okinawa feel free to message me, I know that place like the back of my hand. I'm desperately trying to get back there. It is the best kept secret in the Air Force!
