CRT's are better. LCD is a bit of a novelty, or worthwhile if you're short on space.

go with the regular crt. (if you have the deskspace) anywhere from 1600x1024 up to 2048x1536 display. .23 dpi

verus

1280x1024 with the lcd.
.26 dpi

Your eyes will love you - and you can spend more time at the computer making money to pay for your expensive new monitor

I was told that lcd was much better on your eyes then a crt since it's not shooting the rays onto the screen like a crt is.

Also the lcd uses less heat, so if you run the ac alot then it can help cut down a little on your electricity bill.

I've got dual trinitron 19" CRT's - I've been wanting to upgrade to LCD monitors but I'm afraid they can't handle the incessant usage and always being on... perhaps when the technology gets better or these companies start to warranty their LCD's for 3 or 5 years I'll consider them. I suppose this may be why there's upwards of a 300% difference in pricing on same size LCD monitors? Any thoughts on quality?

the lcd i am looking at is a sony 18.1" and can do up to 1600x1200 ... it's interesting because it has a separate media engine... its a little box that sits off to the side... makes for an incredibly thin monitor... i too wonder tho if it can handle being run 20+ hours a day at max resolution... and how that'll be on my eyes...

here's the link if anyone is interested:

Also think about what you intend to use it for.
LCD's do not refresh at the same rate as CRT's, so playing games or DVD's etc on them are not great as they tend to ghost alot.

Jason.

I have a NEC LCD 1830 for a few months now, it's great, way less eye strain and way more desktop space

Works awesome

Style is always more important than usefulness.

LCD all the way.

Go for a 21" flat CRT if you'll do anything related with graphics. If you just need email and some html stuff done, get a LCD screen.. One thing I was amazed to hear was that (in the case of ADI corp.) on LCD screens - up to eight dead pixels is ok and isn't covered by warranty. Pure BS. As sinempire said, this is still a new tech and WHEN they release LCD v.3.02 I'll go with that

There is a pretty good article in PC World about monitors and decyphering LCD specs. Give it a read...
