They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free.

I knew they had plans to takeover the world / the internet, and now with their IPO money they can do it pretty quickly.

Everyone's revenues are slowly going to drop as Google and other first point-of-entry sites control where their surfers go; to your sites/services, or to theirs.

Mapquest will die with Google Maps, all other free services for VoIP will die / not be able to compete with Google once they release that... and the list goes on.. Google Hosting soon I'm sure, Google Web Design, Google Amazon-store, Google DVD rental services, etc. etc. etc..

What else could they take over?

Matt

That would be GOOD.

Imagine, Yahoo [#1 ranked in traffic], MSN [#2 ranked in traffic], and Google [#3 ranked in traffic] all showed a long campaign showing how the Bush administration used fear tactics to get re-voted in / the republicans... I don't think their party would get in again; though it's the US, so who knows..

MS won't let it happen, not without a fight.

Google's market cap: 78.07B
Microsoft's mkt. cap: 290.31B

Google has some of the most intelligent and internet-savvy / business-savvy people behind them, and attract the most internet and business savvy people as well.

How long did it take Google to get to $78 Billion, versus how long it took Microsoft to get to $290 Billion? Do the math, and Google will takeover.. Microsoft can't do much, unless they duplicate and copy, even then, Google I'm sure has 10,000s of projects going on that no one is aware of, and 100s to 1000s of those projects will be LARGE and everyone will end up using them.

BastarD - LOL.

Long long time ago, altavista was the shit. Now not many ppl know them(anymore)

I think the same will happen with google. They are making some bad moves(like banning cnet, because they showed what google can do) etc. Also in some other fields they get bad attitude. People always liked google, because they were so "easy" and open minded. Now they get much bigger, they get the attitude thing, and Í'm pretty sure, it will get more bureaucratic. Not sure IF it will happen, but I think it will. We will see

Yahoo has had all these services for ages, and they had them before google too, did everyone else die then? No they did not..

Google will go back to where Yahoo is as soon as the next best thing gets released searchengine wise on the market... Google is great, but many others are just as good...

Google will soon be getting into music too. iTunes beware.

Google never wants to be a portal like Yahoo!. I doubt that they will ever adopt that type of a model However, they are very good at innovating existing technologies and creating free options. Advertising though as a revenue model only has so much headroom before it won't support their efforts. However, that too is an unknown, as Google gains more web market share they will also increase their ad availability. As long as conversion stays in a respectable range so that the average business can afford to support Google it will maintain.

I am really wondering what google has done lately to make everyone claim they are so innovative? Seriously?

If it was possible for him to be re-elected I'm sure he'd be shot. Everyone against him is working against him though.

Yahoo decided to branch out years ago and lost focus on it's main source of traffic/visitors/popularity: it's directory and search.

I can see Google heading down the same path. This is what happens when you go public: You have antsy shareholders who want more, more, more and so you expand until you've completely diluted your original product.

I'm no stock analyst or investor, but I'd say if you have Google stock enjoy it while it lasts ... they are spreading themselves too thin (esp. with MSN Search becoming a serious part of Microsoft's future wold takeover plans)
