There was an episode of Happy Days when Fonzie jumped a shark on water skiis...people seemed to think the show outlived it's usefulness around that episode...so anytime a show does something to draw interest like move the characters to a new town, or add a bay etc they are said to be jumping the shark..it's all downhill from there.
