I use a gmail one for business purposes.
I do have box based emails, though they also cc to my google one.
I like the google one due to its spam protection (very little gets in) and I can really access it and the old emails anywhere.

i'm just starting to use gmail because if a server goes down or I sell a domain then i don't have to change my email address.

Ever have a server go down and get notified by email to the server that went down?

I never could understand why everyone doesn't just do email on their own domain.

I am using my gmail account more and more for everything.
The interface kicks ass.

i forward everything to a gmail account, it might seem like just another webmail at first sight, but when you start using it as your main one you can't go back.

I used to lose years of emails on HD crashes and corrupted databases on outlook, not anymore.

The search is in fact 100x faster than searching locally, and i get the same experience on my main pc and if i'm on another computer, the interface is so fast you don't miss a local client (something hard to say about other webmails)

the gmail notifier or now google talk is great too, and you don't have to enter your username and password every time you log in. (can be achieved with msn/hotmail but their interface/speed sucks major penis)

oh and the spam filter there actually works

force yourself to use it for say, a week and see if you like it better, i did(forward a pop mail there, you can go back if you don't like it)

I was in that camp for a long time. Then it sort of dawned on me. Any shmuck can get a domain for a couple of bucks and suddenly they should be taken seriously.

I have had domains go down and then I was SOL for email, or like I said I was traveling once and needed to get an older email and if I had not setup gmail I would of been fucked.

I do.

I have all of my domain e-mails dump into my gmail account. That way should I get someone sending me files, viruses, and alike it will take down Yahoo/Hotmail/Google before it takes me down. They have all the spam blocks, virus updates, and so forth.

I've done it the other way, but I do not want my personal e-mail used for business. I prefer only close friends and family have that one. Helps me prioritize better on my end.

I think it's more professional to use a domain-based address or gmail at least. Hotmail, yahoo, and aol make you look like a teenager or a surfer. I know that I don't take someone as seriously if they're using a free email addy in business dealings.
