:tongue Canada rock band #1 in the US?

Oh my my my, say it ain't so. For the first time since 19-sixty-something with "American Woman" by Winnipeg's own Guess Who, the Alberta band Nickelback is the top selling rock band in the USA, now for the past 2 months+.

Those who make the smarmy little "where's Canada" comments must be secretly grinding their teeth at night while 100's-of-thousands of their fellow 'mericans race to the music stores to buy Canadian. Muhahaaa, I am lovin it up.

Does this prove for the um-zillionth time that Canada is the greatest country on Earth? That Canadians are the greatest people on Earth? Yep, sure does. From the music industry to the space shuttle's robotic arm, Canada IS the strongestlink.
Goodbye.

Why is there a competition between US and Canada which one is better. It's the same shit, except one is called Canada and the other USA.

Actually not as often as you might think. Other than the usual trends like Elvis Presley and pop stars like Britney, the bands that have ruled the Canadian charts (especially rock) have to a good % been Canadian. And, canadian music lovers actualy eat up everything, we support a lot of US bands in sales even more than the US itself sometimes (as certain US singers and bands have indicated in recent memory), but another thing to consider is that you (the USA) have more people in the state of California than we do in our entire country. The odds of one of us hitting #1 in the US charts is dramatically reduced, yet here we are.

Nature of the beast I'm afraid. Whenever you have 2 great countries side-by-side, each with very high "pluses" and very low "minuses", you're bound to get people doing some good-natured kidding about which country is better, and why. I mean no harm to anyone, it's just fun to stick it to those that take pleasure in trying to stick it to Canada (you know who you dipshits are).

All in good fun friend. Just wait, we haven't heard from the ones that get downright nasty about this topic (again you know who you are). Can't wait for that.

Nick ?? Who is that ??

They're an AWESOME band. I don't know why they never jumped the border over to the U.S. I know that they're HUGE in Japan. I didn't like the turn that they did going alternative and changing their name to Rubber, BUT they've got a new cd coming out in the next couple of months and they're changing back to Harem Scarem and are playing REAL music again.

Nick Walsh...Is the singer

Back in the 80's there was a huge metal scene here in TO ( Though not as big as LA)

Harem Scarem , The Tea party ( when they were still metal) and Bas ( before he played with Skid Row0 all used to play at a bar called the Gasworks.

When Mike Myers did Wayne's World he modeled the bar in the movie ( also called the Gasworks) after the bar here in TO.

Remember when the Canadians tried to block American programming from their TV because our programming was devastating the Canadian television industry?

And I, and I am not happy about this, get MUCH Music on DirecTV. Believe you me... those goofy looking bastards are consuming American music. Speaking of which, I went to the Canadian Top 15 Charts and lo and behold, more Americans than Canadians. As a matter of fact, I see only 1 Canadian band on the list.

Suprise suprise.

1 SILVER SIDE UP - NICKELBACK
2 BIG SHINY TUNES - 6 VARIOUS ARTISTS
3 MUCHDANCE 2002 - VARIOUS ARTISTS
4 LAUNDRY SERVICE - SHAKIRA
5 DRIVE - ALAN JACKSON
6 WEATHERED - CREED
7 HYBRID THEORY - LINKIN PARK
8 SONGS IN A MINOR - ALICIA KEYS
9 WOMEN & SONGS 5 - VARIOUS ARTISTS
10 DAY WITHOUT RAIN - ENYA
11 SOUNDTRACK - I AM SAM
12 SOUNDTRACK - SHREK
13 PAIN IS LOVE - JA RULE
14 ESCAPE - ENRIQUE IGLESIAS
15 M!SSUNDAZTOOD -PINK

Nick Walsh ? that's odd. Harry Hess has always been the vocalist with the band OR is that just his band name ??

That must've been interesting being able to see all of those guys at the Gasworks. That's right, it was in Wayne's World.

Lab rat, heeeheeee, I knew you'd be stickin yer beak in here like a dirty cockatoo. What's this I see? You're actually referring to muchmusic's charts to guage the Canadian rock industry? You're kidding right? Tell me you're kidding. Obviously one of us has been huffing (and now puffing) something.

Btw, huffing? That a new motown blurb? Very clever bunch you motowners. Must be where such vital ditties as "my bad" came out of.

Not MUCH Music. I got it from JAM! The internets source for all that is hot in Canadian music. I obviously spend alot of time there. We call the Canadian charts down here something esle though, we call it VH1.

Apologies old friend, I'm not up on the latest substance abuse terms among toddlers these days. Does the scope of your research online know no bounds?

You should maybe change your name to "netrat"

As for the topic of music, your vh1/muchmusic/whatever point is neither here nor there. Fact is, a Canadian rock band holds the top spot on the US charts. Can your vast wealth and infinitesimal knowledge combine to do something about that atrocity?

I will do my best. That guy has the worst hair.

As for my quoting of sources. My apologies, I got into the bad habit in college of quoting sources when I made statements in papers. College professors down here get mad when you make things up.

HOW DARE YOU guys soil my great rock thread by

mentioning Shania-fucking-Twain!!!???!!!!!

Okay, she makes the list for the babe factor, but that's all.

Heart, although produced out of Vancouver mostly, is from Seattle. But there's a hell of a lot more groups and singers that the 'mericans have eaten up over the years that are/were from Canada, definitely...

Gary Wright (of dream weaver fame)
Gino Vannelli
Chilliwack
Crash Test Dummies
Chantel Kreviacek
Celine D.
Stampeders
Helix

Damn it would be interesting to compile a complete list some time, just for the halibut.

Squishy: Aren't April Wine based out of Montreal? Back in the early 90's I used to go see them once a year at the Spectrum. Always a good show. A friend of mine knows Brian Greenway from high school.

CDSmith: Don't forget to add Bob & Doug McKenzie to that list!

Canadian television is also pretty fucking good!

Any Americans in here know what "HNIC" stands for?

No ... HOLD ON !!!

The very BEST sport I ever saw on TNN was Freestyle Catfish Catching !!!

I kid you not ... these three guys (who made me look slim ...) take turns jumping into some river in Louisianna, which is so muddy, you cannot see the bottom ...

I guess the object is to "feel" along the river bottom until you come accross a big mud cat ... if you taunt it, it will BITE your fist, and then you quickly bring it up (still latched on to your arm), and slam it down into the boat !!!

And I am not talking about little pan fryers either !!! These were fucking 15-20 lb mud cats ... with at least an 8-10 inch girth on them !!!

As amusing as the sport itself was ... the eliment that made me almost pee myself, is that these 3 guys names were Bill, Jimbo, and Bubba !!!! And they had the THICKEST redneck accents you ever heard !!! ROFLMFAO

I wish I had taped it .... I could watch that shit over and over again !!!

Who says there are no more quality TV shows ???
