There's a long drawn out story to both, of course, but its basically for the same reason that you won't see Tito again - they asked for too much money and threatened to start their own promotion, so Dana White blacklisted them from the UFC. You can get a pretty good idea of who is blacklisted by Dana by visiting the ufc.tv website and looking in the legends section - if they're missing, they've pissed off Dana. Frank Shamrock started up the Shootbox promotion and it had one show before folding, with Jason Delucia as the main event (nobody wanted to sign with Shootbox and risk getting blacklisted from the UFC). Penn went back to his family-owned ROTR promotion and picked up a couple of fights in Japan.

Tito is a good fighter but he's a jackass.

He got punked by Lidell and Shamrock and you could just tell how scared he was.

I was heart broken when he beat Vitor Belfort though. Whoever is responsible for taking the heart out of Vitor should get his ass kicked. No fireworks anymore.

I go all the way back to UFC 1 and those hour long fights. Severn, Royce, Shamrock etc, can never be forgotten. They are the UFC, the rest of these guys are just punks until they have proven themselves.

And any fighter who steps into the octagon with Jesus tats or Jesus clothing is rediculous. #1. Because there is no J in Hebrew and his name is Yeshua. #2. If you really had that much faith, you wouldn't be fighting for sport.

Not that I'm against the sport, but come on...lets tone down the Jesus crap right before you aim to knock someones head off.

after bj dominated matt hughes and took the ww belt he broke his contract and took a fight for big $ with k-1. zuffa was pissed and stripped him of his title. bj actually sued the ufc to keep it from calling the hughes/st. pierre match a title fight. once lawyers get involved it's very difficult for some people to put their egos aside for the sake of business.

I just checked out the ufc.tv website and it looks like they cleared out the legends section. It used to have guys like gracie, severn, kerr, militech, tank, coleman, maurice, ken shamrock, etc... it had penn and tito also, until the wrath of dana came down.

he definitely looked a bit intimidated against chuck and fought a very stupid fight. no idea where you're getting that from the frank fight. he fought great and simply ran out of gas. a flaw in his game which he corrected directly thereafter.

your memory is fuzzy. shammy is an overrated has-been who put on some of the most boring fights in ufc history. he was recently destroyed by a cross-trained modern fighter.

severn continues to embarrass himself by fighting into his 50's and doing worked fights.

only royce has kept his dignity and actually has a legitimate recent win over a pretty good fighter.

try watching one of those old half-hour long ufc dry-hump fests again. if you can get through more than five minutes of severn/shammy you're a better man than i am.

totally agreed, man. violence has no place in the bible and no one ever committed an act of aggression in the name of religion.

For all you guys that go waaaaay back to UFC 1, here's a newsflash: everybody has seen the first three UFCs. There's been over 50 events since then.

emthree 08-22-2005 11:29 PM

They all wanted to hit that
one or two of them probably did...

Great pics.

Nobody is saying they go back to UFC I, and haven't watched anything since III. Sure there wasn't nearly as much skill back in those days, but some of those fights were pretty damn explosive and had some amazing knockouts. Then of course, there were the "humpfests" too as the previous reply mentions... and yeah, they were enough to put anyone to sleep.

wow! great pics ofcourse.

he's determined to alienate everyone who has ever fought for the company. it would have been hard to imagine even 3 years ago tito not being the poster boy of the organization let alone being a persona non grata.

Well I don't know about that... He might get a chance fighting for pride or k1.

taken from a guy i post with at another site. he lives in japan, trains at takada dojo and has fought in Ichigeki amongst other smaller japanese shows so he knows what he's talking about:

Quote:

UFC is not popular here and no one except the super hardcore fans know that Tito Ortiz even exists. As with anywhere else, the majority of fans here are just casual fans with casual knowledge, not hardcore fans that spend all their time searching the net for results of overseas fights. Even in PRIDE promos featuring former UFC fighters (i.e. Baroni), the UFC is referred to as "America's biggest MMA organization" but that's all you'll ever hear about it. Inoki's Jungle Fight shows in Brazil get more mainstream press coverage than the UFC does.

Additionally, most people watch satellite TV through the Sky Perfect system, which PRIDE uses. UFC broadcasts on WowWow, a smaller system which requires the purchase, installation and monthly fees of an entirely different satellite dish and receiver.

It would take a lot of promotional work and time to *make* Tito a draw in Japan.
so as i said, tito will never get the poster boy money he was getting from zuffa anywhere else.

reynold 08-24-2005 02:16 AM

wow, cool pics with those hot UFC fighters.
