I think mpg and avi are preferred by far..
I did a survey on one of my old sites about it one day, cant find the exact results right now. if you use any special codecs be sure to supply a download link of course

I'd say for quality's sake, mpg.
But as long as it's clean, and with sound, it probably doesn't matter too much.
