Right now we offer $2.95 trials for 3 days and it seems to be working out pretty well.

What do you feel is the best price for a trial and for how long?

I would only use trials if my ratios were subpar for affiliates. I would also suggest 1 day trials if your processor will allow it.

This has been discussed.

What I'm trying to decide is what's better:

Option A Offering a cheap 1 day trail, 1 buck 1 day.

Option B Offering the 3 day trial, but upping it a bit more, I feel 2.95 for 3 days is cheap.

I am fond of .97 myself. No seriously, I also think I read somewhere that consumers also respond well to a 7 at the end of the price though this may be sheer bullshit.

This comes under the .95 or .99 rule. When people look at the statement and see the 99 or 95 on a credit card statement it looks like a informercial or something along those lines.

No significant difference AMC, and I've tried them all with heavy traffic the past few months. I do notice that as others said, chargebacks/credits are higher on the 1-day trials if that's a concern for you.

Right now I'm testing 2-days @ $4.95 and it seems to be fine.

With a 1 dollar 1 day trial there is a higher chance of them not cancelling in time, or claiming they cancelled when they did not or etc. This would then cause a higher chargeback ratio on people complaining they did not want the full membership. So it would be the 30 chargeback on the conversion from the 1 dollar to the 30 dollar.

If we raise it from 2.95 to 4.95 will there be a significant difference is how many people purchase a trial or is it about the same? If it's about the same then it's smarter to do the 4.95 trial and make the 2 more bucks per each trial.

It depends how good is your tour. We don't use trials since we convert almost as good as having trials on.

You are running a revshare only program. We run rev share and PPS, you need to pay on trials for most webmasters on the PPS model. If you were running PPS I assure you that you would have a trial.

We work on a PPS we won't have trials on. At the end of the day what really matters is the EPC. We manage to make more money in the long run with trials off. Sure this may not be obvious too potential affiliates, that's why i'm around to explain it. Some sites make more money with trials on.

How much do you payout/trial? Your affiliate site doesnt mention anything.

Payout I expect to be a bit less than what the equivalent of revshare would had brought in the long run. Not in rush to do it.

Now how many $/sale on a PPS isn't really important no matter how strange it may sound to some. I got asked the same thing from an affiliate (i think it was amateur-flix?) and I told him to pick 3-4 different payouts within logical margins and i'll create 3-4 different models that at the end of the day his earnings per click would be the same.

I think $4.95 for 3 days is perfect. Gives them some time to check it out, and cancel if they want.

The $4.95 proves at least a willingness to use their card and not as likely to cancel as someone spending a $1.

The reason you want them to have time to cancel is (like mentioned above) because if they miss the deadline and get bumped to $40 rebill your likelihood of a c/b in probably increasd significantly.

Say your site is $29.95 for 30 days. That's a $1 a day (Rounded up). 3 Days would cost you $3.... but as with any service the more you buy the cheaper it is... so if you buy a month the price should be cheaper than if you bought ten 3 day passes... So this is why you charge $4.95, to make the incentive of buying a month the better deal...

That's right. You don't want to encourage people to buy a trial everytime they feel like it. The ultimate goal should be: selling monthly memberships (or even longer periods). Those normally have a better retention anyway, also compared to trials that already converted to monthly.

Surfers just get smarter everyday. If you have a guy that buys a trial twice a month b/c he doesn't have more time to surf the site anyway, you might as well charge him that extra 2$.
