SE question: did this happen to you?

Did it happen to you that you started a site on a new domain, build legit incoming links and everything from pages that have a pr, wait one month, two months etc' and the domain just doesn't get indexed on google?
does it mean I'm screwed and I registered a domain which was already banned? is there a way to check this?

It happened to me twice I think in the past and now happened with a new site that I've put a lot of work into. this sucks

Is it worth contacting google about this?
any help would be appreciated...

it normally takes up to three months to get a PR

As far as getting indexed if youve done your SEO well you will be there somewhere you should type in your url and see how many instances it returns - dont type in the http://www. just the domain name

I've been waiting a year for Google to find my super dooper domain, everyone else knows about it but i've resigned myself to the fact that Google will never index it.
When I bought it I thought it was new (it was at a new price anyways..).
I then used the wayback machine to see if it had been used before. One page showed up advertising iBill..

I've no idea what happened there..

I had something strange happen recently... I set up a new site on July 1st... by the end of the month google had indexed nearly 7000 pages on the site, and now they are up to 8500.

I'm #1 for quite a few searches that I didnt even expect to be on the radar... even about the official "<search words>.com" sites in some cases. Wacky.

New sites can take months to find their way to G's SERPs (provided they aren't engaged in bad SEO behaviour).

Make sure you have some good links to your site from *relevant* themed sites which are getting spidered and the rest will take some time.

Email Google and they will remove the ban. I did with some of my banned domains, and they did it. It took like 2 months but they did it.

a) did you buy an expired domain? Have you checked its history?
b) did you submit your index page to Google?
c) did you create a Google sitemap and submit it?

anyway it's good to read some optimistic replies... i'll hope it will be indexed eventually. i'll give it some more time and if nothing happens, i'll probably email them...

Make sure you didn't buy a dropped name.. Not that anything is wrong with that, but I've bought dropped names before that took a year to get listed.

If it is listed in Archive.org then there is a "possibility" that it was banned - but not very likely - Id look at the copy they have and see what it looks like from a SE's view.
The time period to get it indexed varies so much dependent on how many "good" links you have coming in, how much content you have added and how quickly you add it, how quickly you add inbound links - and on and on.
The first thing to check would be your raw logs to make sure googlebot is finding the site and then which pages it has already picked up.
If no bots have been by then time to get more links in from other people.
Once the bots have been by and had time to get your content in - then normally about 2 months (or these days two update cycles) for a brand new site on a newly purchased domain.
Also check your whois listing on whois.sc to make sure your domain is not listed on the blacklist
That would be the first things to check - from there if ya want someone to look at it - just icq me 127670340 - and no Im not an SEO and I dont charge LOL

That's the first step, for sure. Your raw logs are a gold mine when it comes to finding out what SEs are doing (and not doing). If Googlebot has not hit your site at all - or avoids your index page, then that's a problem. If it has come through your site and hit most pages and you are still not indexed, then I would at least write them - it's hit or miss but just be kind
