question for Canucks

when is 'cottage season' officially (or unofficially) over?

I'm looking to buy some property up there but don't want to deal with all the weekend travel hassels and crowded Tim Hortons lol

thanks in advance

Canada eh?

It depends on how far away from Downtown Canada and Canada Stadium...(Where the Rough Riders vs. the Rough Riders play) you plan to purchse the property.

If you go more than 40 mins outside of the Canadian City centre you might need to hire some dogs to pull your sled.

LOL (great answer BTW)

- I would say that the majority of cottage owners shut down around Labour Day... this is my opinion for Ontario... I'm sure out west it's much later... but could be wrong.

Yea, Labor Day is the last hoorah. Wait a few days after that to allow for returning travelers, then pounce.

LMAO.... Yup, I'd have to say that Labour Day is usually the final weekend for most city dwellers who make the trekk up to cottage country. Personally, I'm willing to stick it out until Thanksgiving weekend.

Actually I own a cottage in Muskoka (Six Mile Lake/ Honey Harbour) and the majority of us still enjoy our weekends there right up until Canadian Thanksgiving (second Sunday in October).

I have a family reunion for Thanksgiving, and after an early dinner have the extra hands help me with winterizing (pulling in the floating dock, putting on the shutters, putting the picnic tables under the cottage for the winter ...)

Anywhere in the Canadian Shield (particularly Muskoka/Haliburton Highlands) is GOD's COUNTRY for sure !!! Good luck with your purchase!

yes, the property is about 7 hours (??) North of Toronto or so ..... actually VERY close
to Haliburton/Minden ; )
Gods country is right, I spent many many years in the mountains of Colorado and swore I'd buy up there until I saw this place.

If you are looking up around Minden swing by a town called Dorset. The have the worlds largest Old Fashioned General Store.

For most Cottagers Labour Day signfies the end of Cottage season. You can actually get up to The Muskokas without hours of bumper to bumper traffic after then.

good luck on getting the place.

I've been to Dorset, its an amazing little town
isn't that where the ice cream stand is that everyone goes to or is that in Minden .. can't recall

Evil Chris
I'm not looking for a cottage, its a 1000 acre ranch with 2 1/2 private lakes ... a cottage is just a bonus after the land itself imho
I'm not sure there is that much land available for sale in Vermont (also GORGEOUS area)

vicki, I was just thinking of all the legal red tape you might face.
Good luck though! Cheers.

Um...I think the store was called Robertson's or Robinson's....it's been more than a few years since I have made it out there. I usually fly to get out of Toronto now. Can't stand the drive up Hwy 400 on weekends anymore.

Out of curiosity, is the person selling this property named John? I know someone that has pretty much the same property you described.

No his name is not John, actually its some old lady thats kinda of ... eccentric actually. Very hard to deal with and its frustrating at times

I'd be VERY interested in getting 'John's" contact info just in case this doesn't work out. Does he by change have it listed via website or ??

I don't think he has it listed. It was part of a Family trust...sounds like you might be dealing with one of relatives. Probably the Aunt if it is his Family. There was an awful lot of property involved in the will after it was probated.

I'll try and track him down for you. He is a bit of a hermit and doesn't check his cel phone messages more than once a week and won't use a computer...lol can you imagine?

send me an e-mail to brent AT python DOT com and we'll take this off the board.
