How to begin....??

How is it possible to begin a non-porn site, like a search engine?

I mean, where to you begint o feed it? With adult traffic?

Is there any boards for the non-adult related sites...like traffic traders and such things?

If yes, please post them here

Thanks,
Steve

Search Engine type sites or other huge non-adult sites, at least major ones, are not started by a guy in his home office. They have massive financial backing and spend tons of money on marketing. Billboards, television, radio, keyrings, bumper stickers, you name it.... that shit isn't just whipped up overnight. And even some of the major players that do have the huge corporate investors don't always make it.

Good luck.

AMP is correct if we're only analyzing standalone SE's with their own proprietary dbase and technology.

However, if an adult webmaster wants to start a search engine aggregator site featuring cobrands/"private labels" of Overture [formerly GoTo], and other paid per search sites, these are fairly easy to setup since you're using someone else's database and they are PAYING YOU to do it.

For an example of "private label" SE's try http://mojosearch.com
they pay webmasters $$$ to use their search boxes
{Look Ma, no ref codes! }

NOTE: Promoting your SE is going to take a lot of hard work. However, some scumbags [which will go unnamed since they've been named in other boards] use SSI to "hide" scripts that change surfers' homepages and bookmarks to point to their private label SEs.

Good Looking Out and I wish you the Best!

Well, I do not want to start a site like google.com, hotbot.com or altavista.com ....but more like a small yahoo.com
...

Basically, I would review the pages myself....I would feed it up with my porn sites, add a porn directory, to add every link sites I know, and then, I'll setup link trades with free sites...

I should also get some search engine traffic, since I would link to a lot of sites....right?

Well, if you know any boards that could help me out on this, (board to trades with non-porn sites...well, any kind of non-adult related webmasters boards...), just list them here

Thanks,
Steve

AMP.... I think your wrong. Most of these companies do just start with a "guy in his home office".

Yahoo is a good example. Yahoo started out as a website called "Jerry's Guide To The Wild Wild Web". It was site with his favorite links. It ran for a year before they got serious about it and attracted outside investments.

Didn't Ebay and ICQ start the same way?

And what about Internet Eraser? Wasn't that written by a kid in high school?

Even Netscape.... Started as an after hour project by a bunch of guys working at NCSA. They created the first broswer Mosaic, which later became Netscape.

All of these ideas started small, in someone's home office or dorm room.... Until they found investment money.

Ahhh... the old HP argument. HP started with 2 guys in a garage. Yes.

Those days are gone.

You honestly expect to put something together in your garage and compete with 3Com, Yahoo, HP, Netscape.... etc, etc, etc....? Maybe... but you'd better have one hell of an idea, and you'd better get serious financial backing before letting ANYONE know about it. I live right in Silicon Valley. I've seen fly-by-nighters come and go man. As well as the innovative brainstormers. I've seen people spend MILLIONS and end up closing their doors. Just because an idea kicks ass, does not guarantee it's success.

Sure.. in theory, everyone's got a chance... that's what we're all about....

but it's not likely. The odds are certainly stacked against you.
