How many hits does a site with 5000 Alexa rating get?
How many hits does a site with 5000 Alexa rating get?
And what about one with 20,000 Alexa rating? What do you guys think? Is there a way of seeing the numbers on some of the popular sites in Alexa? |

*Very approximate* numbers based on some of mine. A site just under 5k in rank is getting an average of 300k per day, a site ranked 11k is doing about 150k, and one ranked 19k is doing about 110k. However the traffic numbers can fluctuate a bit but the rankings take a while to adjust.

225,321 doing 3k a day. However, a friend is at 19,292 and does 75k a day

who the hell knows with alexa, but a 10k rating seems to be 50k or so uniques a day.

A lot of it also has to do with type of site.
Since Alexa can only see visitors that are running the Alexa toolbar, then sites getting a lot of webmaster or tech traffic will rank higher since a lot of webmasters and tech people use the Alexa toolbar. On the other hand a site that is very consumer oriented like something a soccer mom would go to would get a lower ranking for the same amount of traffic because soccer moms are less likely to use the toolbar. That being said, the above numbers look pretty much in-line with my sites. |

Alexa has a description of how the ranking works.
What is Traffic Rank? The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site's current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter. What is Reach? Reach measures the number of users. Reach is typically expressed as the percentage of all Internet users who visit a given site. So, for example, if a site like yahoo.com has a reach of 28%, this means that if you took random samples of one million Internet users, you would on average find that 280,000 of them visit yahoo.com. Alexa expresses reach as number of users per million. Alexa's one-week and three-month average reach are measures of daily reach, averaged over the specified time period. The reach rank is a ranking of all sites based solely on their reach. The three-month changes are determined by comparing a site's current reach and reach rank with its values from three month ago.

I think that covers it.
Alexa is a lot more than that little blue line in the tool bar.

Interesting question. I wonder how many hits a site ranked at 1000 gets.
And what about a site ranked at 100, like NastyDollars.com? Any ideas?

imaginax, keep in mind that Alexa seems to count subdomains as the same domain.
E.g. nastydollars have tons of galleries located at gallys.nastydollars.com Also the links to paysite are set via clicks.nastydolars.com - all of these hits may be counted by Alexa for nastydollars.com stats.

There is no way to answer this question. A site with ranking of 4999 and 4998 can have a difference in uniques of hundreds of thousands.

FYI this could be found on Alexa and it makes sense:
hahahaha= Where do people go on nastydollars.com? (what's this) gallys.nastydollars.com - 91% nastydollars.com - 4% grab.nastydollars.com - 4% clicks.nastydollars.com - 1% hosted.nastydollars.com - 1% hahahaha=
