Was never really impressed with the original Xbox... don't know if I'll buy one of these. Will probably also wait for the PS3's. And no I am not poor, but I do often buy 2 of these things, 1 for my kids and another for my house for when my kids stay over.
They have their heart set on Nintendo's new console though.

Sega's Dreamcast came out well over a year before PS2 or XBOX and so if coming out of the gate early is an advantage why did it go down the crapper?

Just like there will be people that buy XBOX 360 without even considering a PS3 just because to them it's XBOX or nothing they are as many( probally more ) Playstation owners that feel the same way about PS3.

As I said if it's a difference of $100 I'll most likely go with a PS3. Now if there is not a significant difference between a XBOX 360 and PS3 graphicswise and the HD is not necessary to play games or save them( assuming there will some sort of memory card option for XBOX 360 ) and XBOX 360 has nearly as many games available as PS3, well then for $299 I'll probally get that.

While the Dreamcast was a great machine, Sega knew that that had an inferior product. They knew they couldn't compete.

That's not the same here. At this point we have a working XBox360, I don't think we've seen anything from Sony aside from specs and case mockups. Point by point break down sqaure the two up nicely. In this case, Microsoft has an advantage.

Check see how much Shit-slinging Sony has been doing. They will lose marketshare for sure. My mom refused to buy the actual consoles growing up. My father has an XBox360 on reserve. Their marketing is already working.

Easy: Sega had no ingrained software franchises, hence the Dreamcast, though early, had no impact.

The smart gamers will get both systems, and along with every Wall Street analyst who covers this sector, I agree that Sony has a tough uphill fight coming to the party six months late with hardware priced $100 over the competition.

Still, both will flourish and do well, because again, they have software franchises worth playing.

I'm going one step further, having a sponsor convert some old Gold points I have into an EBGames gift certificate just for this purpose. Going to use them for one for myself, and my brother for Christmas, two Xbox360 $399 packages along with the same three games (Tiger 2006, PGR3, Madden 06) for each of us so we can play over Xbox Live right away.

Can't wait, looks like the unit will be released mid-November.

With almost a year if not more between them i'll get both for sure XBox 360 looks amazing and the fact that they have final fantasy XI online is going to do wonders for them
