Byron is a funny one.. half trendy half hippy. it's a town of 10k that swells to 30k during the holiday season check out http://www.byron-bay.com/
It's more where people escape to from the city.. or at least the most famous amongst a string of towns up the east coast from Terrigal to Noosa.
If all you need is adsl and a computer then it's coolio and the backroom gets the occasional good gig (bloc party and cut copy two weeks ago) plus a few festivals. Good nightlife for a town. And a great beach/cafe area.. good cinema too.

i think melbourne sounds more like the kind of climate i could handle. i like it to be closer to being cold than warm.

anyone suggest good places to buy a house there? what can you get for say Australian $500k ?

SinisterStudios 08-21-2005 02:58 PM

Perth reminded me of Southern California, and Sydney reminds me on a small NYC.

And remember Fosters isnt Australian for beer.

Anyone want to send some VB's or Emu Bitters to NY???

Hey samsam, if you like being as close to the city as possible, $500k will get you a small "workers cottage" in Richmond (10mins east of city center), youd be able to get one thats been renovated nicely.... 2bed, 2bath, study, small deck... if your lucky you might find one with parking.

of course if you like being a little further out youl find alot more for you money... but I like richmond.

If you have any other questiond feel free to grab me on ICQ or email.

heheh.. should have moved in 2001/2 when our dollar was half the US dollar and house prices half current ones :)

Things should be cheaper in Melbourne than in sydney. $US500k is AU$660k which should get you a decent place in most normal areas.

In Brisbane that will still get you into a big place 20 mins from the city with an inground pool and a back deck.
