Fucking Car Taxes - we are being ripped off !!!
I simply can't fucking believe just how much the goverment screws you in some places with all the taxes they put on cars. (Cyprus and Israel are two very very good examples - although people in a lot of European countries have to take similar shit.)
This will shock some of you guys (especially americans) but take a look at the example below. Here is how it works in Cyprus for example: If you want to buy a car you pay a tax according to the size of the engine in cubic centimeters. (A 2.0 litre engine is 2000 cc, a 5.7 litre Hemi V8 is 5700 cc etc). The problem is that the rate you pay is scaling so the bigger the engine the bigger the rate. For example if you buy a small car with an engine from 1000 to 1450 cc you pay about $1 tax per cc which is not bad. But if you buy ANYTHING with an engine bigger than 2650 cc then you get fucked because you have to pay $16 per cc for that. As an example ... a Dodge DURANGO SUV with a 5.7 Hemi that costs about $28,000 in the US would cost $137,080 in Cyprus. Here is the brakedown: Cost of purchasing the Vehicle = $28,000 TAX (5700 cc X $16 per cc) = $91,200 VAT (Value Added Tax 15%) = $17,880 GRAND TOTAL: $137,080 A Range Rover which is considered to be an expensive SUV in the USA ($75,000) is sold for around $190,000 in Cyprus. If someone wants to buy a Mercedes E class 500 in the USA they pay around $60,000. In Cyprus the same amount would probably get you the E class with a 2.0 L four cylinder engine. The E 500 would be around $140,000. Now ... IS THIS FUCKED UP OR WHAT??? |

bohoo. shit happens.
I drive a 1.2liter vacuumcleaner and I feel quite manly doing so. A car is a method from getting from point A to point B. When a webmaster shows off his cars on GFY, one must remember that a viper costs as much in the US as a medium-sized BWM in europe. ![]()

Cyprus is Greek and always has been. Open a book or something. Turks have always been a minority in Cyprus. |
