Woah ... I gotta say the american flag from the WTC was a moving touch to the opening ceremonies. I wish they would have stuck with the traditional anthem tho, rather than gettin all funky and reprising the last verse, but all in all pretty damn good.

What I want to know is this: why are other countries who have gone through tragedies not represented with their tattered flags at the Olympics? The Olympics are supposed to unify countries with good-natured competition. Instead, we went against the will of the other countries involved and paraded our "enduring patriotism despite our suffering" for the whole world to see. I'm sorry, but 9/11 hardly compares to the struggles most other countries have had to endure on a day-to-day basis. But their pain is ignored, while our tragedy is paraded in front of them. They asked us not to do it, we did it anyway, and I think it was arrogant of us.

Just to make myself clear, so I don't come across wrong: I'm not diminishing what the people of New York have gone through. It was a terrible disaster. I just don't think the solution to our problem is the increase the resentment other countries feel toward us. If anything, 9/11 should have made us LESS arrogant, and MORE sensitive to the image other countries hold of us. But Bush and his propaganda has encouraged exactly the opposite: blind patriotism and disregard for the rest of the world.
Anyway, I'm done complaining. Back to work... |

I agree with you Danny. For the most part , and for lots of people, 9/11 is emotional pornography.

Danny_c you´re right. 9/11 was disaster but U.S-flag doesn´t belong to the opening seremonies.
U.S.A is just one country in this world.... |
