He only fights if the purses are major 6 figure ones.Originally posted by c-loI used to wrestle UFC style with my friends, but with boxing gloves, because, ya know, we prefer to keep our noses straight and teeth in place. I wish I could still, but I recently fractured some vertebrae in a car accident.
Oh well, maybe in a couple years...
I've watched it on Spike a few times. They showed the highlights of Randy Cotour and Chuck Liddell last week, though Randy really sucked it up. I don't see how it was a highlight because he got his ass handed to him in a couple rounds. I also saw one of the first ones where some punk obliterated Ken Shamrock. That was one of the worst things I have ever witnessed.
Hey Anthony, where the hell is my hero Royce Gracie?

Sorry to bring this back, but someone had to give GatorB a decent reason.
GatorB - I watch it for the grappling and submission moves, not the punching. I wouldnt watch it if it wasn't for the grappling, cuz grappling requires strategy and and the ability to think quickly. Of course, punching does, too...as far as timing goes.
But you can't even compare it to wife-beating...these guys knew what they were getting into when they signed the contracts. I don't know how many guys have their wives sign a contract before beating them, but I'm guessing not too many. And I know you were probably joking, or just didnt think that comparison all the way through.
Anthony - Oh, I see. I haven't seen him wrestle in a long time, and was wondering if he still did or not. Thanks for the update. Is he still anywhere as good as he used to be?

He beat the shit out of Yoshita their last fight. Though technically a draw. Last fight I beileve was with Akebono, a sumo wrestler, who he submitted in his guard with a wrist lock.
Can this man beat me senseless? Yes. Is he up to the top of MMA? I don't see Royce beating Crocop, Vanderlai, all the top MMA guys. MMA has gone forward.
I am looking forward to seeing the new generation of Gracies. Roger is kicking major ass, I'm can't wait to see my old instructors Ryron, Rener, and Ralek to enter the MMA scene.

i've been a fan of ufc since it first came around when noone knew what it was. done an extensive bit of traing too, even done a few matches myself onna local level. but as with most people i got fat n lazy n stopped trtainig. im tryin to get back in the swing of things though.as far as the wife beating comment. most trained fighters would not stoop to this level of action. true fighters dont like to hurt people who cant defend themselves. once you understand the chess match that is submission grappling, it becomes very exciting to watch. the ufc allows so many different variables as far as punching, takedowns, and submissions that it really is fun to watch. whether you agree with the sport or not, you have to respect these guys for thier heart, courage, and in most cases the sportmanship they show. it is about time these guys got some mainstream media exposure. they deserve it. i judged one of rich franklins fights when he was a local fighter before going to the ufc. its really cool when you see someone you watched and judged as a fighter make it to the top. i also got to roll around with gary "ironbear" myers and jason godsey a few times too. i feel fortunate just to have been tapped out by these guys, lol. they are all nice people, and good human beings, especially godsey, he's a really nice and humble guy. or atleast he used to be. as far as royce goes he is still a fighter and will always be one. although he has certain stipulations to his fights. such as no time limits, and that the referee doesnt stand them back up when thier is a lull in the action when they are on the ground. royce would not dominate like he did when ufc first came to be. fighters now are more well rounded, and are vfersed in the bjj game, and its submissions. although royce will always be remembered as one of the greats of the sport. along with others such as shamrock "both of them", don "the predator" frey, dan severn "who is another really great person", and marco huas. the rules have changed but the spirit of the game remains. long live the u.f.c.Last edited by MikeyFingaz; 08-19-2005, 02:18 AM.Comment
