Tips on increasing reading speed

For the longest time I've stayed away from books, because reading takes a long time. I never, until recently, realized that the time it takes has mostly to do with me reading somewhat slowly, as I also have a seeing impediment. Nothing that requires glasses or anything (I've gotten my sight checked), I just get awfully tired when reading.

So, any of you fast readers got any tips on increasing reading spead? Online training, software, books, anything? I realize that I'm missing out on a lot of information and I wanna rectify that. Any tips are appreciated, thanks.

Dude, try this book. I used to read at a moderate pace. My speed and comprehension retention picked up dramatically after reading it and doing the exercises.

Yeah, that one I've tried already, found a bunch of stuff. Was looking more for tips from people who have tried certain methods, we all know how accurate most search engine results are.

Gene, thanks for the tip, I'll try that one.

All I know is that it helped me out a lot. It isn't a quick fix. It needs some effort cuz you have to do the reading exercises and strategic word/phrase location exercises. I can only recommend books based on personal experience with them. I can't vouch for others' experiences.

Thanks, I do appreciate the tip. Based on the reviews for it I found this one on Amazon, great reviews, think I'm gonna try it out.

skim and process as you're going. Don't get hung up on words you don't quite understand. If you keep reading, the rest of the paragraph will usually explain enough to get the idea. Most slow readers I've worked with get all stuck on the little things: long words, tough words, or awkward punctuation. Just keep running through and everything will fall into place. If it doesn't, THEN go look up the word or re-read a few times to get the flow going correctly in your head. Don't sweat the petty things.
