I used to raise many different types of carnivorous plants. So if you have any questions just ask.

By the way the venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) really needs a humid enviroment with proper temp. They also do need a yearly dormant period.

And whatever you may have heard do not feed it hamburger, that will just kill it. They expect bugs and need the protiens and stuff found in bugs. Choose only bugs that are 1/3rd or smaller than the trap itself or bacteria rot will set in.

aftershock, how can I contact you in a private way? AIM? ICQ? MSN?

I have it housed in a plastic shell for the humid greenhouse effect, I just removed it for pictures.

That's a nice one. I had one of those when I was a kid. Amazing how they'd catch flys as fast as they are.

Fly trap is one of the hardest plants to keep alive.

I had mine for 3 years.

It finally died out 2 days ago

You can get them online, in many grocery or hardware stores and places like home depot often carry them or can order them for you for like 5.00

The real trick to keeping them alive is having them in an enviroment that is as close to their natural one as possible. I really would suggest a terrarium. Then make sure you give them a dormant cycle each year because like nearly everything else they need to sleep as well.
Feed them well, I suggest of all things maggots. Just pierce them with a toothpick first so they can not squirm out of the trap. Before the thought sickens you, you can buy them packed in sawdust.

Only if you capture them and feed it to them.

I would suggest you remove all plant life from your house, put any food stuff in the fridge or take it outside, and then set off several bug bombs. Wash all your laundry (even if it was clean before) and leave outside in storage. Vacuum the rugs each day then 2 days latter bomb again. Vacuum one more time and resume life.

warning, I would not attempt to transplant it until you really have gotten the hang of it. Or at very least propgated it some so you have others.
