Are warning pages a must?

What do you guys think about warning pages? Should you have one now a days?

It is just the type in traffic that sees it, is that worth it?

Whats the downside to having one? And the upside?

For a tgp it's a waste of time ,the surfer knows what to expect. Many will close the page if there is a warning page

think of it this way, a warning page is an extra page you can use for advertising

Any new sites I build have warning pages on the domain root. However if I trade traffic with other sites I trade with the main page and not the warning page for obvious reasons.I figure if they are coming from another porn site they know what to expect.

My prior thoughts on the subject were if the domain has an adult keyword then no warning page.. If no keywords then it got a warning page. However now I'm putting them on all sites, I figure it can't hurt and may help as it gives another page for the SE's to pick up on.

Should you have one or you Must have one. That are two different things. I know a lot of sponsor programs do have warning pages but if you really need one when you are running adult paysites that's what I did like to know.

We also give the goverment a ton of our money in taxes. Whats the difference between giving the goverment money for a speeding ticket and giving the goverment tax money on what we made a year??

Yes. Anyone who does your laundry needs warned about the stains, and loaves in your drawas.

When i send my traffic to topsite lists ... I nearly always see a 20-30% statistical difference between toplists that have vs have not got a "click to enter" page at the front.
ie. if my stats say that i trade with a toplist and send them 20,000 hits, the toplists without gateway pages would usually say that i sent them about 18,000 uniques ... but the toplists with gateway/"click to enter" pages usually say that i only sent them 16,000 hits. I guess it would be because a fairly large % of my traffic simpily close the window without entering whenever they encounter a gateway page.

I would expect that warning pages would have a similar increase in loss of traffic for this same reason.

Does your tour show nudity? If so, a warning page is a smart idea.

there is no logic behind them...some people think they are safe with warning pages, but when some idiotic parent want to sue you, because his kid saw a porn site, the warning page wont help you in the court

A couple of weeks ago I was looking over the info for the age verification script that Lawrence Walters has available and noticed that all but one or two of the people he has listed have stopped using it.

I don't believe a simple warning page would provide more than very minimal legal protection at best and from experience I know warning pages reduced the number of people entering the sites themselves. However that is not necessarily a bad thing because it is highly unlikely you are going to sell to someone who isn't even interested enough to click past a warning page. And if do you deliver a text-based warning page instead of going straight into a (graphical) tour, it will load faster and save some bandwidth in the process.
