According to that the US accounts for 50% off all military spending. |

Some history for you Canadians with country self esteem issues. Really, to be proud of a war that ended in a stalemate is a joke. The *British* burned down the White House. Not Canadians. Your country didn't exist till 1868. Back to the war with the British. Neither side could win decisive battles, which lead to the signing of the Peace Treaty in Ghent. So, before you go half cocked, why don't you learn your history and get over yourself. |

Stop using the war of 1812 as something the Canadians did. The United Kingdom was a Super Power in those times. I will concede that it used troops from it's territory of Canada to stop an upstart country from taking possesion of more land. Now as for the Quebecois... That's a mess I don't want to step in. :) |

However, there is massive dispute over that "chunk of ice" right now because of its geographical location & the ease with which anybody could send off missiles and hit pretty much any country in the Northern Hemisphere, from it. |
Yeah right.. Our boys are killers.. We've never lost in battle.. Bring it.

There wont be a war over a bloody rock. This argument has been going on for atleast a year from what I've heard.
Someone ran out of terrorist attack headlines and said, hey... Lets throw some fire on the great battle between Denmark and Canada for a fucking rock. |

Hans Island? You can keep it.

hahaha
I am as patriotic as it gets.. and even I know our military is a joke! (if we ever had to use it) but since we're not fighting wars all the time we don't need it |
It's a political issue, not a military one. Canadian and Danish negotiators will get drunk for a couple of nights and work out some percentages for profit on the island and then everything will be fine.
Canada likes to do business just like the adult crowd. We go to trade shows in great locations, get drunk with our friends, make a deal or two, and call it a good time. I'm pretty sure that our government is going to "invade" Vegas sometime soon too :) |

Interesting military spending facts ... Israel spends almost as much as India and has about 1,050,000,000 people less. ;)
Message to the two great countries arguing in this thread - Have a beer and relax. :thumbsup |
Who cares who got the biggest army, we got Carlsberg.
If we stop selling carlsberg to a country the damage would be at least 3 times bigger than any possible attack from a terroist. The danes can outdrink any country in the world :winkwink: |
Why do people often suggest that the Canadian military is a joke? Does it have any reason to spend more than the $10 billion a year it already spends? There's only 14 countries in the world that have more military spending than Canada, and all of them are allies to Canada except for maybe 3. So how much should Canada be spending? $20 billion? $30 billion? $40 billion?
Maybe it's just the fiscal conservative in me, but in my opinion, pointless overspending is the real joke, and choosing instead to invest in education, health care, and infrastructure is an excellent choice. Maybe that's one of the reasons Canada always ranks highly on quality of living surveys? |
