The French threatened the oil companies with a "special tax" if they didn't return some of their bumper profits to consumers in the form of lower gas prices. (And go figure the oil companies reduced gas prices in France)

What sucks is that ANY president the U.S. has ever had other than the current one would do the same thing to the oil companies here in the U.S.
Unfortunately the current administration is owned by the Oil/Energy industry so the record excess profits for the oil companies will continue while prices continue to reach record highs for consumers.

It's a very sad day in world history when the French president has more balls than the American one.

It is safe to assume that actions will take place to normalize the price of oil globally. Unless the world is ready for a major inflation something must happen. In order to normalize the price of fuel everything must rise in price to cope, there must also be a lateral rise in wages includind wages for the lowest skilled of workers. The long-term effects of this meteotic rise in prices will be dramatic if something isn't done.

We have to trust our government to look out for itself as well as us.

Frankly the price of fuel could very well be irrellevant if we were paid twice as much as we were a year ago. That not being a reality, gas prices will normalize.

I wasn't happy to see regular peak pas $1.50 per gallon, but I'd hate to say it, at $1.50/gallon I'd be quite content.

I live in Paris France and I haven't seen a damn difference in the pumps. So, I'll go on record as saying it's all a crock of shit. Gas station next door to me is 1.45 litre.

Oh and there are 3.74 litres per gallon.

Does anyone know, isn't vehicle insurance included in the gas prices in france? that is what a french guy told me anyhow. So while it is more expensive, they don't pay for car insurance. So do the math I suppose.

Oh you pay for insurance here. In fact they are kind of crazy about their insurance in France. You can't move into an appartment without insurance.

As for the drivers.

There are agressive drivers like in L.A.
There are drivers that disregard traffic laws like in Barcelona
There are fast drivers like in Rome.

If France was socialist or even communist at least it would be something better then it is now. Basically in a nutshell France is pure bureaucracy. It must destroy a rainforest each year with the amount of paperwork they have here.

Even the simplist things are a nightmare. And added to that, you just can't throw money at a problem and watch it suddenly fix itself.

Btw note in the article that France demanded a reduction in oil prices to help its farmers. This has nothing to do with ordinary folks wanting cheap gas. Its just the usual pouring of cash into the black hole that is Europen agricultural politics.
