when you install it, you tell it what to associate with. just like every other media player out there. windows does the same thing. it tries to do everything...mp3, midi etc

I have been using Quicktime almost exclusively on my sites for over five years, and with tens of thousands of customers I have only received maybe 15-20 complaints, and nearly all of those issues were resolved quickly (a few neanderthal users were beyond help).

Still, I plan to begin providing movies in other formats as well, now that I have a program (AutoDesk Cleaner) which will batch process my movies into multiple formats automatically.

Discreet is pretty good:)
Pretty valuable tool.

But it does not resolve the nuisance at hand.

You're fine Donny. Don't let the haters get to ya.

I edit ALL My videos on my Mac, and NONE of them are QT format... so there goes your theory out the window...

And... Final Cut Pro doesn't come with any Apple that I know of... :2 cents:

Can you encode WMV on a mac?

TiGrrPrr 08-10-2005 11:31 PM

The retards that are forced to use QT from sites not giving them another choice. Okay, shoot me.

sicone 08-10-2005 11:32 PM

Not sure if Final Cut Pro has it as an option, but Autodesk Cleaner will export in .wmv format.

JuiceMonkey 08-11-2005 03:44 AM

I do for movie trails on quicktime.com

Coral Chandler 08-11-2005 04:06 AM

Cleaner 6 is a great product; however it has not been updated since 2002, unless you count the 2003 beta. Any of you Mac people use Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 Compression Suite? I've been looking into it since development on Cleaner seems dead.

Rui 08-13-2005 10:56 AM

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm -> this is what you need, download it and stop crying :)

Cory W 08-13-2005 11:00 AM

Haha

Well, I use it because I use HD video and the conversion into .mov is easy. Does Windows offer a free WMV HD Player?

Everytime I put it in WMV, it looks terrible. QT seems to look amazing.

Quicktime (the player) fucking stink, it's so, bloated. The format itself is not that bad... I do use quicktime alternative but I can't play Mpeg4 with it... :helpme

Try out the latest Media Player Classic, I only use QTA for .mov :)

JohnW 08-13-2005 01:28 PM

<hahahahahahahahaRetard. ;)

And yes, you can encode .wmv's on a mac using Cleaner. You can encode into any format on a Mac using Cleaner.

If you go to your Start Menu, click Run and type in msconfig, then click the tab that says Startup you will find that it is indeed in your startup. Just uncheck qttask, click apply, then OK.

This could all be avoided if you follow the advice I gave in my earlier post to not install the QuickTime player and instead install QuickTime Alternative :2 cents:

You should be able to add the Mpeg4 codec to your favored media player.

mikesouth 08-13-2005 04:00 PM

The problem with quicktime isnt the format its the cocksuckers that make it own all your fucking file associations without askin you or anything.

specially the associations it doesnt play well....Its a recurring problem for many of my members I still get emails asking when I changed to quicktime format...I have to explain that the asswipes at quicktime did it to them, I didn't then I tell them how to fix it so QT isnt the default.

I think the quicktime people did themselves more harm than good with that shit.
