Canon Powershot G2 has been recommended to me and I have to say, after playing with one for a while, I cannot wait to get mine.

If you can afford one a Canon D-30 is the best.

Runs around 3K

I have a Sony DSC-F707. 5.2 megapixels. It is INCREDIBLE! The Flash is powerful although if you are taking pro pics it's still important to get extra lighting. And make sure to pick up a 128mb memory stick because the stock stick is only 4mb. Get one!

Nikkon 990 all the way. Beats anything else I've ever used.

Well, any of those related cameras are fine. I've used the C-2020, the C-3000, and I currently use the C-4040. Their controls are all fairly similar. The cameras are easy to use and produce excellent results.

Well, this is a little like someone asking what is a good truck to do light delivery and you recommend a big Kenworth rig. The D-30 is like WAY overkill for doing website content. I have a camera that can shoot in the 4-megapixel range, but I shoot in the 2-megapixel range (the camera does many different resolutions), and then I even reduce the photos to 55% of the original resolution to sell.

Don't buy a D-30 unless you're going to be making large prints. If all you'll be doing is web work, a $800 or less camera will do you just fine. I like the Olympus C-xxxx line and currently use the C-4040, but a C-2020 would do you just fine, and you can probably pick one up on eBay for a song.

I love my Canon Powershot G2 too - 4 Megapixels, under $1000 price, you can attach a 1 GB microdrive and have tonnes of images, attach a lensmate and fix other lenses. Much manual control. A fun rotatable LCD that you can fix in any angle to take pictures from above a crowd with your arms up or from waist height or any angle you can think up. PLUS a remote to take your own pics! The video's not bad either, and can do for small mpegs of any models you shoot at 640&480 to further tease the viewers.

Of course other cameras might have these features too, but I havent played around with them. The remote seems unique to Canon.

Used to use a Sony DSC 505, but was never happy with the colors. Just bought a Fiji Film Finepix 6900. This was recommended by several Digital Camera magazines, and a search on the web revealed the same thing. In its class its apparently way above its competition. Cost me here in the UK £600 - but as always its got to be cheaper in the US.

Here's a sample taken at its normal resolution (1280x960). It can go up to 2832x2128 (6 MegaPixels)

This shot was taken only using the flash on the camera.
For inside work I also use an external flash bounced of the ceiling.
