They got some deal where u open a chequing account with TD and get a free ipod shuffle (u may have to do a few transactions or deposits). I just heard about it today..im lazy, so i doubt im gonna do it.

I never heard about it either. The only TD ad I've seen is that dude who closes up his 'late nite' restaurant and then wanders over to his local canada trust branch next door... shit for marketteers I guess.

I was seriously considering getting a biz account there at one point, until I saw how much they shave in ForEx. CIBC doesn't even have its rate up online. HSBC has the best.

Code:
Exchange CAD/USD Aug 7 2005

Bank Buy Rate	Sell Rate

HSBC 1.20115 1.23115
RBOC 1.20040 1.23400
TD/CT 1.19200 1.23500

the deal with this is that you gotta have an existing chequing account at another bank...to get the ipod, you gotta ditch that bank for TD...i'm pretty sure thats the way it works, doesn't make sense any other way otherwise they'd be giving away thousands of the damn things

There are TON of offers like that around. You can get $50-$100 just for opening a checking or a credit card account somewhere. There are usually some restrictions, like you have to do certain number of transactions a month, but other than that they are legit deals.

Used to bank with Canada Trust many years ago... never again.

Rickholio -- you've discovered but one reason among dozens why people should avoid TD/CT.

I used to deal with CT years and years ago. Problem was, whenever I'd try to take money out of the machine on friday or saturday nights, they'd *ALWAYS*, and I mean *ALWAYS* been 'down for maintenance'.

WTF... I work hard all week, I get paid, I wanna go party goddamn it and every time I tried to pull some of my hard-earned ducats out of the ATM it was a struggle. Well, one friday night I got particularly worked up, hauled off and hammered on the thing good... and, uh... broke it. No atm no worky, and my bank card was still inside.

The next day I went to a teller and cleaned out my account, and made it abundantly clear that I'd be putting my money in a place that didn't require me to borrow money from friends in order for me to eat on a friday night. Been with Royal ever since.

The rates are better if you do your transactions online. Heres the rates I get right now.

Sell
Amount: $1,000.00 USD = $1,206.60 CDN
Exchange Rate: $1.00 USD = $1.2066 CDN

Buy
Amount: $1,000.00 USD = $1,225.60 CDN
Exchange Rate: $1.00 USD = $1.2256 CDN

If you do have an account with them, never transfer funds in the branch wait until you get home and do it online. You will save a point or two.

the deal is if you open an account there and transfer your current balance at your current bank to the TD account they will give you the Ipod.

Yeah, you have to transfer all of your accounts from another bank in order to get the ipod
