Anyone Please - Can you Help? ...& Beware!

Hi guys I am trying to track down a designer I paid $100 up front to do a simple layout for me...

Good Stuff - ICQ: 199236100

In good faith I sent him the content, the payment up front and he said he would get back to me to sort it out the next day - from then on I haven't spoken to him - Can't get hold of him etc...

I see from this board that his ICQ is online, but he isn't answering - Not looking good on my side - Anyone that can help me get in contact with him would be appreciated.

I'm going to try and get my money back via epassporte but I'll see how that goes.

I hate it when I see things like this.

As a designer I must admit I been late a couple times on things, and in one recent case I was slow to return money on a project I could not full fill moving money to Paypal.
I generally avoid this at all costs, I hate it when I see "Bad designer took my money threads". Please if you are new in this business or need design pick a designer that is known and save yourself the grief.

The worse part about all this is the fact that I still haven't got any response from Epassporte and getting smart asses telling me i'm dumb... nice! Unfortunately I know I have been... but never the less, some help would be appreciated.

Well this IS gfy so you cant expect much as far as pleasant responses, but you also wont get jerked around for long either..

ALWAYS ALWAYS get a reference before getting design work done , and then your reference should be able to get ahold of them in the event you can't.. not that its a sure thing you wont get fluffed , but in this case it seems you didn't contact enough people BEFORE giving them money or you would be contacting them now

All we can do is recommend better designers

Sorry to hear about that. I feel your pain. I hired someone to help me out and they turned the work in a week past deadline, did not turn it in complete and lost me future work with a client. (I was given "x" amount of work to do and outsourced a portion of it to someone on my ICQ list that I knew well, but not super well. Big Mistake.

Not sure if you know RUI, but he worked for me as a temporary assistant, he was very reliable, knows a lot and won't take your money and run. I did a ton of outsourcing earlier this year so I can give you referrals if you need them for future work.

Yeah I learned a $3,000 lesson about a year ago with a designer who'd been around for a long time and had a rep. He apparently decided my job was to one to lose it on. Be thankful it was only $100 for you, and anyway maybe he'll show up since it's only been one day.

Count your lucky stars that it was only $100! I've got taken for almost $5k and that's a tough lesson to learn.

Oh, and if you didn't sign a contract the you are pretty much fucked. Sorry.

He has done work for me before and it was ok, he was fast, did exactly what I wanted and did a good job.... it's what has confused me this time round

I hear what you guys are saying about getting references and contract but maybe I took for granted the fact that I thought I knew him and he was trustworthy.
