I think I understand that our bacteria etc killed off the aliens because they could not adapt to our environment, but what would cause their force-fields and machinery to just break and stop working?
What caused the machines to malfunction in War of the Worlds?

Well you should obviously be able to tell from the title of the thread that the end of the movie might be revealed inside, so dont be stupid enough to read this thread if you're so fucking excited about going to see the movie yourself some day. It's been out for a long time now...Comment

no you dolt.. it's the fucking "machines malfunctioning" in the title.
You can read the title of the thread and go into the cinema knowing how it ends. All it takes is a modicum of respect for other people..
Anyways I've seen it.. but only about 2-3 weeks ago - it's not released the same time everywhere moron and i've been familiar with the story since i was a kid. I just hate lamers that spoil things for everyone.Comment

the machines are only as good as the operators, the dying aliens drove the machines and thusly drove them poorly when they were sick.http://www.webseth.com | http://www.webseth.com/aff.php | Verotel Billing | Certified Hosting

The point of screaming about the birds was to let the soldiers know that their force-fields weren't working and that they were vulnerable for attack, that's all.Originally posted by weaverguyhehe, im confused too, how the fuck those "machines" malfunctioned. is it something to do with the "birds" Tom is screaming about on the soldiers?Comment

It's already been said but I had to laugh at your ignorance. Gawd damn. You do realize this is a re-make of a fucking classic? Right?Beat it. Nothing to see here.Comment

yeah, we walked out of the theatre wondering wtf tom cruise said at the end and why the machines fell to the ground...we had no clue til we got hm and did some research...i never heard the radio show or saw the original movieOriginally posted by nexcom28This movie had the shittest ending of any Hollywood blockbuster ever... Although in the original it was the bacteria that killed the machines, this really wasn't made clear in this pile of crap though..Comment

Jesus i can't believe how thick some people are. Laugh at your own inability to read before you post, not that i would expect much more from the morons around here. I already mentioned in this thread i've known the story since a kid and talked about the original broadcast in another thread IDIOT.Originally posted by fuelcell

The thing you "orglaugh" 'tards don't understand is that 90% of the people going to this summer blockbuster know this about the movie:
1. Tom cruise is fucking Katie Holmes
2. I'd like to fuck Katie Holmes
3. Tom Cruise is going crazy
4. oh something about aliens.
WOTW is a cult classic, there is a small percentage of sci-fi nerds buying tickets that have heard or read the original story and another bunch that saw the remakes. And besides the nerds the remakes were that long ago most people wouldn't remember what happened in the end 50 years later.
If you can't understand how you can spoil a 50-60 year old remake especially when a ton of movies today are remakes... Then please don't respond to me because theres no point wasting my time trying to educate you.Comment

lol. jesus christ.
I count 5 people in this thread including yourself that could have had the ending spoiled. Age of the story means nothing. Fuck you think half the audience knew what was going to happen at the end of "troy"? lol.
Anyways this is dragging on. Spoiling is just a pet peeve of mine because im a bit of a film buff.
WOTW you have to take with a grain of salt.. if you can accept that a race millions of years more advanced than ours hasn't taken mircobiology into account when running around another planet then you have to accept that their machines can stop working when they die inside and make up a bunch of excuses like maybe the machines were plugged straight into their brains unlike a car or something.
It's sci fi. theres always a level of plausible deniability. You think using humans as batteries is efficient or that a master race of machines can't use geothermal energy in the matrix? You've got to let some of the rationality out the window and take it as it comes especially with WOTW given it's place in the history of sci-fi.. we've had 60 years of technological and writing evolution to make them seem more plausible.Comment

Thus far, this has to be the funniest thread I've read
We *ahem* downloaded WOTW and the sound cut out in the last five minutes so we missed the voice over (but I thought it was pretty clear what happened ;) ... Million Dollar Baby came back from the dead and killed them!)Comment

lol whats the fun in that?
I already had really.. i just had to laugh at fuelcell for being so retarded.. I just couldn't believe anyone.. even on gfy would be fucktarded enough to quote me saying there were earlier versions literally in the first sentence and use that quote to try and belittle me for not knowing it's a remake lol.. the irony of his statement should have punched him in the face to knock some sense into him.
anyways all good
fyi, when i said plausible deniability i meant suspension of disbelief... girlfriend was bugging the shit out of me to leave... fucked up my concentration.Last edited by bhutocracy; 08-07-2005, 03:11 AM.Comment

What killed the machines on war of the Worlds is definitely the reason why I hated how it ended.Comment
