Is this industry saturated? What is the ratio of adult sites to surfers? Any idea?
Are there more adult sites, pages, and/portals than surfers? 2:1, 50:1, 1000:1 ratio? Is there just too much porn available? On top of pay per view, DVD/VHS rentals, magazines etc... there's plenty of porn to go around. Anyone have any statistics?
I personally think the more it becomes accepted in society, the less money there is to be made on it for "small timers." As long as it stays "taboo" in society, the less chance of major corporation competitors taking over the entire industry. Any thoughts on this? Yeah, my brain is overactive today lol ![]()

And by surfer, I mean prime candidates for a porn purchase... not 58 year old grandmothers surfing the web and stumble upon a porn site accidentally or 18 year old college students without credit cards etc.

No way. I have searched for atleast 10 niches that would make decent money and found nothing. So there is still quite aways to go before saturated.

Never.
How many people join the internet each day for the first time? ALOT! How many people are members to multiple paysites? ALOT! How many people just turned 18 and got their first CC and want access to milfhunter? ALOT! How many people just got a divorce and havent had a piece of ass in a while and are looking for some porn and are willing to whip out their cc? ALOT! The internet is still new and alot of people still aren't on yet, but will soon be one of your longest recurring members. =)

Just because 5 million (over exaggeration) new people get on the net everyday, doesn't mean they are all porn purchase candidates... especially in countries that have less credit cards than the US, Canada, etc.
How many new sites/TGP galleries, DVDs, and pay per view movies are released everyday? And out of all of these options, how much free porn is available that makes it so surfers do not have to buy anything to get off? The next generation of internet users is wiser... more of them know how to get what they want for free, unlike newbie surfers in 1997.

the problem is all these programs giving away all the goods for free on TGP's. Why would anyone pay for access to a site when they can google and find 300 galleries of exactly whats in the members area.

But I do think between free porn, processing issues, and the low cost of entry into this business, the market for high-price/high-margin porn is close to its ceiling. For the past 3-4 years I don't think we have been doing much more than spinning our wheels overall, with probably as many or more businesses in decline as growing. So far online porn has largely been like those seedy strip clubs in places like London's Soho, with tired models popping in and out of each one in turn, an expensive "membership" to get in the door and ridiculous prices for drinks. If we are going to break out of the limited appeal this imposes on us and take real advantage of peoples' natural interest in sex, the answer (except perhaps in the very short term) isn't in finding new niches, but in a completely different approach to our business on almost every level. We need a product (or at least a presentation) which sustains peoples' interest beyond their initial curiousity and the price (the base price anyway) must be lower, to get more people in the door. |
